I’m certain it’s some kind of a data base issue. Perhaps those xml files in the clip folder play a part. If I transcode the files everything is fine but then I end up with twice the data.

Freeze a frame
You can freeze one frame of a clip, either for a set time or for the entire duration of the clip (as if you imported the frame as a still image). If you freeze a frame for only a portion of the clip, you can also create a speed transition to or from the freeze frame.
Franklin McMahon has this video tutorialon freezing a frame using the Frame Hold command and changing speed & duration for an entire clip.
Freeze a frame for a portion of a clip
In a Timeline panel, click on the Clip Effect menu and choose Time Remapping > Speed. (The Clip Effect menu appears next to the filename of every clip in a video track. You might have to zoom in to make enough room in the clip to display it.)Choosing Time Remapping > Speed from a video effect control
A horizontal rubber band that controls the speed of the clip appears across the center of the clip. The clip is shaded in contrasting colors above and below the 100% speed demarcation. A white speed-control track appears in the upper portion of the clip, just below the clip title bar.Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) on the rubber band to create a speed keyframe .
Ctrl+Alt-drag (Windows) or Option+Command-drag (Mac OS) the speed keyframe to the place at which you want the freeze frame to end.
Note: Be sure to drag the rubber band horizontally, not vertically as you do with other keyframes.
A second keyframe is created at the place where you dropped the keyframe. The inner half keyframes, the hold keyframes, take on a squared appearance as compared with regular speed keyframes. You cannot drag a hold keyframe unless you create a speed transition for it. Vertical tic marks appear in the speed control track to indicate the segment of the clip that is playing freeze frames. It’s fairly easy though not as well thought out as in After Effects.

alright, i figured it out. I have to make the video channel active.

drag and drop. can’t draw. need to show client nice storyboards

my mistake. The transparency was produced in AE by the layer modes settings but the opacity was 100%. Once I changed the opacity in the AE file to anything less than 100% then I got the desired effect. (I knew something was up when the same problem manifested in Premeire too)
Thanks for your response

finally found it. It’s called “Rainsleeve”

Using an sm-58. They were good in the camera but a little low in Final Cut. I will keep that in mind for the next time. thanks

You might want to check your resolution/quality settings

Well, this is closer to a no budget job. I might be able to afford $6.00 and a powder applicator and I’ll be the make-up artist.

How come my sub comps (which have indivdual layers from photoshop ) maintains the alpha for each individual layer; while my final comp seems to have no alpha channel (or as you said, the alphas are combined to one big channel displaying as white?)
