One thing you might try is unchecking the “preserve aspect ratio” in the QT export dialogue box. I have found that it does the opposite of what I expect it to do at times. Also, here is a handy guide I found explaining HD uploading to YouTube. I hope you solve your problem.

I have a full version of TransJammer in the box with manual. Not sure if it will work with your system, but it just might. I’m happy to trade it for something equally value-less, lol.

Does your movie look stretched/distorted on YouTube or does the aspect ratio seem to be correct?

How about razor blading and disabling (Control+B) the clips under these photos?

Sounds like dirty heads to me too. If you don’t have any success after cleaning the camera with a head cleaning tape, try using a different camera or deck to capture with. It could be that your camera has been bumped around enough to knock the tracking out of whack. If the alternate cam/deck works, you might need service on yours. Good luck!

How much does this time expansion process cost? If it’s a show with commercial breaks I would think you could just edit some quick bumpers together to pad it out rather than fake a longer run time. I’ve also worked on shows that have added a credit roll and recap to stretch their run time. I’m sure there must be a reason, cost/time/content that they’re not doing this but just a thought.

Are you looking to replace the internal drive with a newer, larger or faster one? If so you can use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your current drive to your new one and then swap out your internal drive for the new one. You’ll have to connect it externally somehow to do this with either a chassis or a dock. Maybe you can borrow rather than buy? Carbon Copy Cloner is free and works great for back ups too. Good luck!

  • Sometimes it’s quicker and cheaper to hire someone to do your VFX. An experienced person could do this in, perhaps minutes. It just depends whether your ambition is really doing this kind of work. If not, you could upload the clip in full res, I could download and remove for you seamlessly and quickly. Just a thought.

Have you tried MPEG Streamclip? It’s a shareware program that does a great job of preparing stuff to be edited in FCP. I use it to convert DVD I’ve burned into DV QT movies. Works great. I don’t work for them or know them or anything, just thought it might solve your problem.

  • How can I edit selected parts of a sequence into another sequence without getting a string of nested sequence clips? All that is required is a simple remap of your F9 and F10 keys. (There is a video tutorial of this process at https://www.davestiles.com if you prefer to watch over reading) Out of the box they are mapped to “insert” and “overwrite” respectively. In order to insert or overwrite the original clips from a sequence in your viewer rather than chunks of the sequence itself, we need to remap those keys with the operations named “insert sequence content” and “overwrite sequence content”. You can type “insert” or “overwrite” in the search window at the top right of the keyboard layout dialogue box to narrow down the choices to help find them. Drag the “insert sequence content” to the F9 key on the map and drag “overwrite sequence content” to the F10 key on the map. Save and close your keyboard layout. Now when you load a sequence into your viewer and F9 or F10 into the timeline you will get the original clips in you timeline, not chunks of sequence.

    Hope it helps.
