removing a logo and replacing it with colour in FCP, Color or Motion
Hi,
I have filmed a shot of a hot air ballon but I need to remove an advertising logo that is written on the middle of the balloon, and instead of blurring out the logo I I’m trying to see if I can remove the logo and replace it with a single colour in either Final Cut Pro, Color or Motion?
Would it be easier to completely overlay a single colour onto the entire balloon so that it is just one colour of say red? As I would be happy for the balloon to be one single colour with nothing else showing on it. Would you be able to achieve a realistic effect with that?
Fortunately the shot is static and is not panning or tracking at all, so there shouldn’t be any issues concerning the shot moving.

Sometimes it’s quicker and cheaper to hire someone to do your VFX. An experienced person could do this in, perhaps minutes. It just depends whether your ambition is really doing this kind of work. If not, you could upload the clip in full res, I could download and remove for you seamlessly and quickly. Just a thought.

Depending on the exact shot, this should be a doddle. The basic idea would be:
i) Track the balloon
ii) Paint the logo out of a copy of the balloon in Photoshop.
iii) Use Motion, your tracking data and your new balloon to replace the old one.I would counsel against a single colour if you want your shot to look realistic. It’s very rare that objects in the real world (especially curved objects) are just a single patch of colour. A properly handled painted balloon would be preferable.
I haven’t seen your shot, but something like this could take less than half an hour from start to finish. Maybe a good deal less.
