i have a buddy who downloaded the EX-1 firmware for 32G cards on some Korean site. It got yanked off but he still has it i believe. He installed hit himself as is working fine, i believe. I may be able to get it. Is it a problem to send that via email? Or would mods object?

OK, one last question. What third party drives do you recommend? I’ll get the system with one drive and 2G RAM and get two HDs and 2 G RAM afterwards. Where do you shop for hardware deals?

that’s what i’ve been looking to hear from someone. Is the Raid 0 config something i do or something i would have to get a third party to do or soemthing the Apple store can do before they ship? Could i stripe just 2 drives for video and have the third(first) be the system drive? I have an IT dept to work with here but they don’t do Macs, they do PC. COuld they cofigure it? So, essentially, i would get a three drive system and config the 2nd & 3rd to be raid stripped and use those for video? Everything thing else can be standard Mac parts, correct?
thanks

thanks
i have just been pricing at the Apple Store site. I wouldn’t know where to begin piecing together a system. The Apple store offers the RAID card and then says that SAS drives are needed if the RAID card is implemented.

November 5, 2008 at 5:13 pm in reply to: Considering FC Studio Purchase & Need Some Infoi hear ya. I have the Velocity, and love the stability of it. I thought about going proprietary HD, like another DPS system, but i need to get trained up ona more broadly used format, for my career purposes. I have 5K to spend on a mac, and will probably get a Mac Pro.
I see myself being a bit dissapointed with performance, considering we have been using a hardware based system. I just want to at least know that i can do real time cut and dissolves with FCP in a Mac Pro environment.
thanks again

November 5, 2008 at 3:46 pm in reply to: Considering FC Studio Purchase & Need Some InfoI too use a SD DPS system, 8.0. Love it, but am looking to move to HD editing with my EX-1. I am looking into the Mac FCP system. Is there a big change between the two? Any thoughts?
thanks

that’s good news. I can add RAM right after i buy it and install it myself, no?

i’m kinda stuck at 5K. I work for a municipality, so it is what it is. That doesn’t mean i can’t get a 2GB ram system and add 2 more after i purchase it. That way i can use a separate PO to order it. I thought that it would be best to get teh max processing pwr that i can afford and add RAM later.
For this example let’s assume i am going to be running FCP and maybe Motion. That’s it.
No one has said whether the conventional SATA drives would work for HD compressed video. I assume i would get n OS drive and then a 2nd drive for video, correct? Or is it necessary to get a RAIS set up? I am talking about teh RAID set-up that is listed on the Apple web site when you configure the system. Is it best to get a third party RAID system? Or, again, is it not necessary for what i am doing. I have a neighboring city using iMacs to edit their HD stuff. they say it’s adequate. Not great, but adequate.

So the MacbkPro would run it flawlessly, FCP i’m talking about.
I have the money for the MacPro but the idea of mobility intrigues me. I assume i would have to get an external FW HD and use that for vid. Where would the desktop Pro version exceed the laptop Pro version? Rendering speed? What else? Isn’t there an issue with graphics card>
