Thanks Eric….did that, no anomalies shown in Inspector or elsewhere. This exact same clip and the exact same unchanged edits in the timeline worked perfectly yesterday — until I opened the project this morning. Btw, the other clips in the timeline are fine, and they are from the same shoot, shot just minutes before the now suddenly bad clip.

Right after updating to 10.6.6, all my pre-existing events and projects started hanging up 2-10 seconds on every keystroke. Apple had no answer. I managed the issue by copying and pasting the timelines into new events and projects. Someone suggested the update for iPad functionality corrupted the code.

The drive no longer mounts so I’m guessing it’s toast and am taking it to a data recovery firm.

Thanks for responding so fast! One further wrinkle: I have been working on this project on and off for 5 years and so never upgraded from FCP 4 and dvdsp2. Will the method you suggested still work? Will the ref. movie still export my seq. markers? Thanks!
