  • Quicktime conversion exporting to DVDSP with markers?

Posted by David Shore on June 19, 2007 at 12:01 pm

I have a 2 hour sequence I need to burn to DVD. A while back I was told to use Quicktime conversion to mpeg2 for a file this size. Now I’ve been told by others to use either Quicktime movie (and let DVDSP compress it) or use FCP Compressor. The original rationale for using QT Conv. was that my files are large and that in the end, wherever compression takes place (DVDSP or FCP) it’s all the same in the end. Of course i want to be able to use chapter markers as well. Thanks!

Because of the two-hour length I would export as a “by reference” quicktime movie and then use Compressor to encode MPEG2 and AC3 audio. When exporting be sure select DVD Studio Pro Markers and uncheck Make Movie Self-Contained.

Thanks for responding so fast! One further wrinkle: I have been working on this project on and off for 5 years and so never upgraded from FCP 4 and dvdsp2. Will the method you suggested still work? Will the ref. movie still export my seq. markers? Thanks!

You’re welcome. I believe it will. Make a test limited to a couple of minutes of material with several markers added.
