  • [Peter Corbett] “It seems crazy that Panasonic would release a new format with limited and undeveloped support for PC users.”

Kinda of backwards comments isn’t. Or chicken and egg.

Apple, AVID and others have NLEs to support the format.

Panasonic is selling a camera. The PC vendors have some obligation in determining whether they wish to support the format

One question I have for your hopperHD, is how you intend to deliver the footage to the stations.

The HVX200 doesn’t record anything but DV to tape.

Exactly what is your intended delivery medium to the stations?

Capturing for television other than ENG on a HVX200 requires 4Gb or 8Gb P2 cards.

At about 4 minutes per card, it isn’t really equipped to long form television.

One poster indicates that the Z1U is a consumer camcorder.

I guess we can agree that we all disagree at times.

    Okay, I’ll bite.

    How many?

    Do you know?

    Why is it important?

    What is your point?

More than that, why are you taking this position on virtually every board you post?

The camera is shipping in low numbers. Now that’s not unusual.

So, tell us why all of this is so important? More than that, why axe do you have to grind with Panasonic?

    Happy new year

Absolutely drop any firewire based media scratch disks.

SATA internal or PCI SATA external with two or four drive enclosure.

The 720p footage with action/motion on the HVX200 is fabulous.

Well shot and planned footage on the Z1U is also fabulous.

As Barry says, the issue for most people is acquisition media for the Pany.

I record on $16.00 tapes with the Sony. Not standard DV, but mastering tape the minimizes drop outs for HDV.

The Panasonic requires either 4 or 8 Gb P2 cards that are very expensive. Shooting DVCProHD on these tapes runs about 4 minutes per 4 Gbs. Or you can record directly to an external hard drive equipped to this – three possibilites are all about $2,000.00.

Or you can record live directly to FCP using laptop.

I’ve downloaded both 1080i and 720p footage from Kaku Ito’s web site in Japan that was shot with a production model received on December 29th.

Looks fabulous — mostly action footage of a bicycle shot from a bicyle.

I even encode a DVD to see how the footage translates to a DVD.

    Again, it look fabulous.
