Your sequence settings, ie. set HDV is a HUGE problem for you – HDV has long been discontinued, because it’s a horribly “lossy” codec that was in use for a very brief time, before the mire modern compressed codecs like Pro Res 442 were developed, and it get zero performance increase from GPU processing, because that hadn’t been invented yet.

You should open a new sequence, set the seq settings to Pro Res 422, square pixels, and copy and paste everything from your current timeline. You might have to resize some of all over the place material, but you will ultimately have real-time performance and much faster renders.

What is your camera original material? Is it really HDV? That sequence setting raises a big red flag for me.

There are several possible answers to your Jon, but you haven’t really provided all the info necessary for a precise answer. What are your sequence settings? What codec are you exporting to? Are you 100% certain everything on your timeline is fully rendered?

FYI, the “best” technique for exporting from FCP Legacy is to export the entire sequence at its native settings, which should happen lickity split, then use that file to make your export to another codec using Apple Compressor.

Try exporting the timeline as a single file at the native settings of the timeline. If that works, use that file as your master to encode in Media Encoder.

You might try transcoding that clip in Adobe Media Encoder. But, is that clip possibly from a phone, transcoded to Pro Res?

Open a new sequence, drag that clip onto the timeline, when the dialog box appears make sure to let FCP match the sequence settings to the clip, and now hit play. Does your audio still drift?
