Of course downconversion would give you more realtime performance than editing 5K footage of the same codec, but we have no idea if you’ll ever need a 5K master or not at a later time.

In order to see fields you must have an I/O card displaying a true video signal to a video monitor – if you’re working on a laptop or with computer monitors only you’ll be guessing about the field order of the stock footage, which could bite you later if you create DVDs or broadcast the project.

FYI, the lesson to be learned here is, ALWAYS make your proxies the same pixel dimensions as your camera original. Prices should be a lower bitrate, but NEVER smaller pixel dimensions.
And, that should hold true for 4K proxies as well, unless you plan to throw away the project after mastering to 1080, and you know you’ll never need a 4K master, ever.

May I ask you one question? How precisely did you bring your media into Premiere?

It’s difficult to answer without knowing the context, seeing the shot in context, etc., however, it is very high contrast, and the whites are a bit blown out. Look at the restaurant sign, you can’t really read it, cuz there’s little detail there, and the white dresses of the two women are also pretty blown away. I would hazard a guess that the people who don’t like it don’t like the limited dynamic range of that camera, because they can sense it does not match what they would see with their eyeballs.

July 22, 2016 at 5:10 am in reply to: Workflow: FCPX to Resolve OR Resolve to FCPX back to ResolveGotcha Joe, sorry if I got your post off track. I honestly don’t know enough about FCPX file handling/codec handling capabilities to help in this case.
BTW, I’d seriously think about doing the entire project right in Resolve if I were you… Don’t tell anyone, but it’s almost exact like editing in FCP Legacy, except it’s got file handling and color capabilities that are outstanding, and certainly tightest for BM camera files.

Why round trip after color correction? Can it be done, yes, but that’s NOT really how it works best. You should be editing in X (or Resolve), and “finishing” in Resolve. Why would you want to color correct/grade, then head back to FCPX? For what purpose?
