    Hi all,

I am receiving some 5k footage to edit and I am having my DIT transcode it to prores 422 but I was wondering if there is anything else I should have him do before I start cutting it. Is it easier if I have him downconvert it? The footage will eventually be output to an h264 streaming codec…

I’m editing on Adobe Premiere Pro CC
using an iMac (with 8GB of memory and an i7 processor )

Of course downconversion would give you more realtime performance than editing 5K footage of the same codec, but we have no idea if you’ll ever need a 5K master or not at a later time.

    HI DAVID!

    Thanks for your response.
Yes so I’m having this stuttering issue in playback in both FCP and Premiere with this 5K stuff so I’ll need to downconvert I guess but deliver a 5k master. So I guess my qeuestion is how can I downconvert this stuff such that I can easily reconform to 5k after?

Just transcode to ProRes Proxy, but keeping the same pixel dimensions.
