No problem, but I do think a discussion of negative space is entirely more interesting. ?
I’m not really interested enough to look at the other thread, but I f that discussion was about whether NLEs should default to insert edits vs overwrite edits, my 2-cents is that the opposite of what Apple defaults to is probably the correct default. 🙂

Great subject for discussion…
In still photography the term “negative space” is used to describe the space around the subject, used in good design to balance intended subject without distracting from it. The term is also used in other arts – musicians for example describe periods of silence in a musical piece as negative space.
The same is true in filmmaking, where negative space can be picture, sound, or even time.

Alan is suggested by that, if you use green screen, there are untold benefits… First, you and your subject don’t have to travel, you can very simply place them anywhere in the world by just using iconic stock footage. That will save money and time, and because you get to select from the best shots available your final product will look like a million bucks… If you try to do the same thing with live action you’ll probably spend a million bucks and it will probably look like you only spent a fraction of that million.

What is the camera original source of your media? What was the camera, what codec, what framerate? Are the files you’re working with camera original, or something you’re reediting?

Sam, do you know how many Southern California filmmakers have lost their entire artistic legacies to the ravages of the environment because they tried to rationalize away the pain of paying for proper storage with proper conditions? The most serious impacts on all forms of stored/archived media is not from anything catastrophic, but rather from the more subtle environmental changes in uncontrolled environments, such as a garage. Sure, there is a cost involved, but 25-years from now when the Academy is building your retrospective, you will think of my advice. Whether you take that advice is strictly up to you, of course.

I think you already know the answer. Why don’t you try the trial version, it’s free, and you always have the option of transcoding to another codec and editing in CS6.
