What is the camera original source of your media? What was the camera, what codec, what framerate? Are the files you’re working with camera original, or something you’re reediting?

Original source was a two-hour MKV from a blu-ray: codec: Windows Media Video VC1 (WVC1), Frame rate: 23.976215. (I am editing one of my favorite 1980’s PG movies with rough language and scenes for my young niece. Surround audio was separated into multiple mono 48khz WAV’s, so I can edit center channel dialogue.) Time length of audio and video files are the same before and after transcoding video to ProRes. FCP settings are confirmed before import into new projects. It is the import of the ProRes video clip into FCP7 that shortens/accelerates the video clip by nearly one minute. I’ve tried transcoding to ProRes in various ways: LT, HQ, video only, with Quicktime Pro and Mpegstreamclip, and all resultant video clips are shortened/accelerated upon import into the browser.

We really can’t help you with this here John – you see, what you’re doing is in violation of the intellectal property rights of those who own and created the film you want to edit, and it violates the code of conduct here on the Cow. Hope you understand?

    “Frame rate: 23.976215”

the frame rate seems a bit odd.
I’ve had luck correcting weird frame rates using cinema tools.
open the file in cinema tools, and conform the frame rate to 23.98

I’ve found PAVtube (or one of their many products) to be a LOT better with MKV files than any other app.
    a lot faster for sure.

you can leave the audio as part of the video and all 6 tracks will come in,
and be in sync with the video.
