DVD video as we know it uses MPEG-2 not MPEG-1. So, you might try using Compressor to output to MPEG-2 so Toast won’t have to recompress the video again.

I’m not familiar with Digital S, so this is just an educated guess… The Pixel dimensions of Betacam are 720×486, while DV is 720×480, so there are your 6 lines… So, do a “Save As” and save your current timeline using another name or just add “DV” to the existing seq. name. Then, use Easy Setup to change the timeline to a DV sequence, and render the timeline. That should do the job for you.

What format was your original source material? What timeline settings did you use? What tape format are you mastering to? Without that information anyone wihing to help you would simply be guessing.

All computers will playback NTSC and PAL DVDs. However, see what happens if you put a PAL DVD into your set top DVD player and try to watch it on an NTSC TV or broadcast monitor…

Please forgive me and don’t feel dejected Don, that was not the point. This is just one of those many Cow incidents that happen all the time in which converstaions go astray. The fact is, everyone is trying to help, so that makes all the frustration worthwhile in the end. But, it can certainly get very frustrating from time to time…

Don, I think you need to go back and read the entire thread. Or, please let me know how encoding audio to AC3 gets Mark any closer to his goal of a video file with interleaved audio that he can bring to another facility on a data DVD for further encoding on a system streaming RealVideo?

Well Mark, without an external firewrie drive you’re gonna have to compromise after all. If your shortest clips are 30-mins, then you are gonna have to transport compressed files after all. In that case, you might try compressing to QT using the Sorenson 3 codec, it yields small, yet high-quality QT files, but I’m even those files may be too big for transport on DVD at 30-mins. runnig time. Windows Media 9 would be a good bet in your case, but since you’re working on FCP, you’d need something like Flip4Mac Pro to do that…

No need to make it so complicated… Its simply the multiple compression hits that I think you should try to avoid if possible.
If you can possibly sneaker-net them QT files on an external Firewire drive you could have the very best of all possible worlds. If you are limited to sneaker-netting on CDs or DVDs you’re gonna have to compromise. So, do you have an external Firewire drive?
