If you turn on the Show Duplicate Frames and leave it on, at least you know once you drop a clip into the timeline if it has been used or not.

  • Sometimes when shooting in 24p, if an object is passing too quickly through the frame, you will get that awful banding. Pans and motion within the shot have to be slow-moving. Because of the pulldown system, you’re actually loosing a few frames each second. If the movement is quick, this might be why you’re getting the banding effect.

Instead of adjusting the speed, try using the Time Remap in the Motion tab. You can set keyframes and change the speed of the entire clip, or part of the clip without having to split it. Play around with that feature and see if it helps.

Thanks Russ, very helpful. After playing around with the tool, I’ve discovered that roll and ripple edits are made possible through edits on multiple tracks all at one time, even if the edits do not line up in the timeline. Now the trick will be finding a situation where I would legitimately need this feature.

    Phil,
Try going to File-Reconnect Media, and then selecting Search to manually navigate to your drive where the files are located. Sometimes Final Cut will not automatically recognize new file destinations. But if you point it out, the files should come back online. Hope that helps!

I had the same problem with 24p footage shot with a DVX 100, but in Final Cut Pro. If the subject or content of the footage is moving too fast through the frame, you will see the interlace, because of the slower frame rate. At least that is what my problem was. Maybe that will help you out? Not sure what you could do to save it other than squeeze it like you said.
