  • Can’t link my media files!!

    Hey,

I’ve consolidated my media files from one drive to another and the “Reconnect Files” dialogue appears. for a lot of the files to reconnect it’s fine, however sometimes it says that there’s a filename missing but won’t point to the file name. Normally it will have the drive that the file(s) are on and then under that list the file name, but in this case all I get is blank lines. Any idea why this may be?

    Cheers,

    Phil

    Phil,
Try going to File-Reconnect Media, and then selecting Search to manually navigate to your drive where the files are located. Sometimes Final Cut will not automatically recognize new file destinations. But if you point it out, the files should come back online. Hope that helps!

The thing is that there is no file name in the search box. I read another post where I can individually select an offline file and then reconnect it having deselected the “only link to matched name” box and then navigating to the file that I know points to that certain video file. It’s as if there’s been some corruption in my project file where the reference to a file is deleted, the only thing that it knows is the drive that it used to be on. Doesn’t help when it doesn’t know the filename!

Also on this topic last night I went through manually connecting files that were missing on the timeline and a couple of files came up telling me that the start and end of the file I was linking it to was different. When the file linked the video on the timeline was completely incorrect.

Final Cut really needs to get this sorted – it’s very frustrating!!

    Hi Philip,

Just wondering if you found a solution to the problem?

It sounds like I have the same problem, and with a deadline fast approaching its very frustrating!

    Thanks

I’d love to say yes, but unfortunately I ended up having to painfully go through the timeline working out the name of the offline clip, finding it in the bins, relinking the media clip to the correct file. I have read in other forums that it is a known issue with FCP and not just V6, V5 as well! Don’t know what you guys think but this is a SERIOUS flaw of Final Cut and one that they really need to get sorted ASAP.
