Run CUDA-Z and post the screen shot like the above. My guess is that you will find the card running at PCIE 1.0 speeds of 2.5 GT/s. So while the card itself is running at normal speed, it’s link to the CPU is running at half speed. (Same as running at 8 lanes instead of 16)
For most things, you will never notice a difference. But at high data transfer speeds this will matter. If you don’t need the extra speed, no worries.

Coincidentally, today I am working on GTX570 with 2.5 GB and Displayport. Should allow boot screens and use of System disks on an Apple 27″ etc when I am done.

Yes, in a Mac Pro using the 10.7.3 “magic” driver, they do work…at PCIE 1.0 speeds of 2.5 GT/s.
Anyone running a self initiated GTX5xx or GTX4xx card try posting these screens
You won’t be able to post the “PCI slots” one because the self initiating cards cause an error that stops that screen, but you can see your PCIE speed in CUDA-Z (the device to host and host to device pinned speed shows PCIE speed)
Pretty sure my EFI cards are only ones that run at PCIE 2.0 Spec of 5.0 GT/s.
Due to how Mac Pro enters BIOS legacy mode, it also affects Windows side.
BTW, these shots are NOT from the super fast Ultra Classified, these are from a standard GTX580 3GB that I have been working on. It’s ready.

I hesitate to make much fuss with Ebay.
It is sort of like Apple and that Daisey guy, the more fuss you make, the more attention the bozo gets.
When he first listed one of the GTX480s I posted on MacRumours and here is what he had to say:

He is a dirt bag, pure and simple.
Anyone who has bought a card from him, if “MacVidCards” is in your system profiler please return card and demand refund through Paypal. If you can leave negative feedback that details the TRUTH…ie that cards he sells use stolen rom, I can offer a healthy discount on a replacement. (35%) I am not asking anyone to do anything dishonest, far be it. I am not afraid of the truth, he is.

The mercury Engine requires 3 things:
1. CUDA 1.1 support (ie, G92 or newer)
2. 768 MB of VRAM
3. Cards name to appear in a simple text fileThey could have put the “supported cards list” into a compressed or compiled file that would have been difficult to modify, but instead they placed it in a very basic level text file that anyone can modify with “text edit”. They MEANT for end users to have ability to add cards.
The CUDA 1.1 requirement means the Quadro 5600 isn’t able to work, since it uses CUDA 1.0 only. This also rules out all of the G80 cards with 768 Megs, unfortunately. (8800GTX, 8800 Ultra, Quadro 4600)
But G92 is 8800GT is new enough, but most are 512 Meg and get ruled out that way. The rarer 1GB version of 8800GT WILL enable Mercury…WHEN IT’S NAME IS ADDED To THE LIST.

They give instructions for using Terminal to do this, but you can just navigate to the folder and do it yourself.
Note that you must use the name as it appears in system profiler. And for some reason CUDA 4.050 has trouble with some G92 cards but going back to CUDA 4.0129 will make it work
The Quadro 4000 and Fermi GTX470 are based on nearly the exact same card and drivers. So if a Quadro 4000 works, a GTX470 will work too, once it’s name is added to the list.

This is due to the self-init function of the drivers.
Using ATY_Init in other oS versions gives same bug.
Not sure why, just how it is. Only EFI inited cards show up properly here.
Most of the self-inited cards are running at PCIE 1.0 Spec of 2.5 GT/s but it is hard to verify due to “Error” in PCI cards section.
Use CUDA-Z and your Single Precision number should be 1100-1300 for a 570 and your device to device pinned will be around 2900. EFI inited cards will show 5600-5900 for device to device pinned.

Currently, the GTX680 has wretched Compute performance.
Whether this is due to immature drivers, the lowered SM count, the half speed Shaders or the phase of the moon is unknown.

We can just hope that the drivers mature and/or they release the GK110 which will mop the floor with current cards.
I will settle for OSX drivers for GTX680 for now. RIght now it is dead to the world in every iteration of OSX I have tried.

The Fermi cards ran the CUDA Cores at double core clock speed, the new Kepler cards use more cores but they run at regular clock speed. (ie, not doubled)
