Thanks for your quick reply. I would agree 4:3 is dead and buried, but unfortunately powerpoint has not yet made the switch to 16:9 and this is what is causing the problem.

For quality reasons I’d be happy to leave this as 16:9 as it will eventually be played online as well as a widescreen TV.

However… its a case of how to position a 4:3 powerpoint slide as well as the talking head to make them look decent. I was thinking of using a slight reflection under the powerpoint but the problem is then where to position the video.

Or I could add some same coloured background either side of the ppt slide to make it look 16:9, although the space would be wasted…

Also, if it’s any help what I’m more keen on spotting are black frames, camera jumps, stutters et. As opposed to noise.

I’m using premiere pro cs4 and have not purchased the monitor yet. I intend it to be a 26″ hd tv with hdmi so I can use it as a tv too.
I think my max monitor Res is 1600×900 but could be wrong. Should I avoid tv’s then and use a dedicated 2nd monitor for playback if the quality is better?

ah yes, i’d never considered getting a feed from the projector.
I’m a lot more experienced with converting to jpegs and putting them into video, its just the audio side of things im worried about.
I bought a Beachtek DXA-4s box today to arrive the day before the shoot. Also spoke to the AV company and they are more than happy to let me have a feed. (I was also worried I’d turn up and they wouldnt let me/wouldn’t have the output!)

right… that is kind of a disaster to be honest. I was really hoping to just plug the output from the desk into the mic input on my Sony HDR-FX1. Is this definately not going to work? I thought as long as I kepy an ear on the volume and made sure it wasnt peaking then it’d be ok.

The reason I wanted to use audio from the desk is to save putting another mic on the speaker, plus I dont have 2 wireless mics and some presentations will have 2 speakers.

Im going to need as much info on recording from a sound desk through the FX1’s mic input as soon as possible!

thanks for that. Yes I should of mentioned I planned on getting the powerpoint and exporting jpegs as I would do for a wedding best man speech using a projector.
I like the picture in picture talking head thats a nice idea.
It seems then that the second camera would really be quite wasted, but hopefully the wide and tight angle would make it a bit more entertaining to view.

If anyone else has any ideas that’d be great. Do I need any kind of limiter/attenuator for the audio coming from the desk into the camera or will the desk be able to control the levels individually for the camera feed?

exported as AVI from premiere and now works perfectly.

i should also mention that the footage was only HDV right at the beginning of the chain. I imported HD m2t into premiere and outputted as HD mpeg. Then frameserved this HD mpeg down to a DVD compliant 720×576 PAL mtv and wav, which is the file I imported into AE.

I then outputted as MPEG2-DVD which I see mentioned in your list above so perhaps that is what I need to change to fix this. I will give this a go now.

by “something I do in after effects” I meant it was at that stage that the issue occured.

Ok I’m ashamed as you have given me that stock answer with something in the past. Could you advise what type of file format I need to convert to in order for it to not freak out?

I wonder why the guy in the guide didnt have this issue as he was importing straight from HDV m2t…
