No where does it fail. I think it is a solid finishing and color grading application with new editing features. As of now, really do not see it as direct competition to any editing software out there as of now. I think it was designed to allow people to edit with any software they choose and adopt any workflow that meets their needs. Then they can bring in their timeline, make any last minute changes such as any necessary trimming, and go from there.
I see it as part of well rounded workflow along with FCP X and Motion in the mix. With even more OFX support, this product has evolved into something great. I really appreciate the hard work the Black Magic Design team put into this new version. Have yet to use it but I really love what I see. Great time to be an editor!

Nice to see another low cost color grading and finishing option available with Nucoda. Do you know off hand what editing capabilities it has? How well does it interact with Final Cut Pro X and what about plug-in support?

Working and finding my around in version 10 at the moment and everything below applies to the current version
I think the timeline bin is just for any timeline (sequence) you create. There are no nested sequences in the current version but you can do compound clips. Only downside is that you can not modify the compound clip.
Media pool, if my understanding is correct is where you import your footage. You can create new bins and move clips from bin to another.
Right now, after watching and reading further, looks like Resolve 11 is not a full featured editor at this point. So for now it is X for editing and some finishing tasks. Mainly titles and transitions, probably will do more high-end finishing tasks in Resolve because of better keyframing capabilities. Question now becomes will I need the same plug-ins for both X and Resolve or will I need them just for one but not the other? Look forward to using both FCP and Resolve together.

I completely agree with you here Tony, there are so many thing that FCP does very well. I really began to like the software when 10.1 came out, this was far the biggest improvement. The only area that needs improvement is with key frames. It took me an adjustment period, but really enjoy working with the current version. It makes editing fun again.

Sounds like a very interesting year, including some disruption over at the Adobe booth. I can only imagine the stress level there.
While not able to attend this year, was very impressed by the news. Not only here on the Cow but from various other sources. I think the team at Black Magic Design came out with some really impressive stuff this year — studio cameras, the high end 4K camera and Resolve 11 was the cake along with the icing.
Disappointed but not surprised about no news from Apple on an update to FCP X, was really hoping for some type of announcement regarding a 10.1.2 release, hoping for next week. That being said, it is taking a very good direction and expect it to continue to do so.
There will be probably more exciting news to come, this year was very impressive.

I remember when Final Cut Pro was $999 and the same price was for Cinema Tools, then later on, these products began to become in a package. Before too long Motion and Color made its way into Final Cut Studio, before that Color was know as Final Touch, which was more expensive. I am not sure how disruptive Black Magic Design really is. They make their money off hardware as does Apple, so they can sell software for next to nothing. I can see how someone who spent 6 figures on a system would feel. To me it is a matter of perspective depending on when one entered the game and what the price of admission was at that time. My two cents, whatever it is worth.
