Interesting that After Effects was mentioned. In the event I have the funds necessary I would probably go with Nuke but that software is way out of my price range.

One thing that has me slightly puzzled is what features are not present in FCP X, interesting. Perhaps it is not subscription only? Why would anyone want to own when paying monthly rent that drains your bank account is so much fun? 🙂

Alright, serious side of me:
I turned out the lights on the very thought of even thinking of about subscribing to Adobe CC and for that matter bolted the door shut. It has nothing to do with outages or things as such but more on principal and the expensive cost over the long term.

As far as playing “Track Tetris” (a very addictive game) I prefer the trackless method though part of me says tracks please. With more efficient editing in a trackless environment I am somewhat surprised that others have not followed in the same tracks (pardon the pun).

I see FCP X getting developed more, and hope Motion can be a serious contender against After Effects, in same ways it is. Please add the ability to use expressions and I want Trapcode Particular to be supported, please.

Dealing with groups is much more efficient and fun compared to a pre-comp, those can get in the way. In fact I will even turn out the lights on a tack matte as an image mask is much more flexible and powerful then its AE cousin. Place it anywhere I like, in its own group or wherever I wish. Can even use a video clip, find the frame I want and use only that frame for the length I need it to be.

I agree as well or as they say in the movies, “I concur.” One thing that I am trying to figure out is how to create keywords in Resolve to get into FCP X. I believe the folders in the media pool (master folder) are taken in as an event in X and subfolders would be keywords?

Been playing around with Resolve 11 and just kicking the tires. Not sure I would consider using it for finishing as of yet since the OFX support is limited compared to FCP X, Motion, After Effects and others. Right now I believe that only Boris Continuum Complete 9(not released as of yet)and Genarts Sapphire are the only two ones supported at this time.

One area where Resolve does shine is in trimming, while FCP X is mediocre in that regard. Keyframing is better as well though slightly short of Motion and After Effects, which are the best.

What would make Resolve even more powerful is to bring in generators, effects and transitions that were custom built in Motion 5 which is why I would consider FCP X as a finisher in addition to a nice NLE as well despite a few drawbacks such as keyframing.

I do see Resolve as a very viable alternative to Premiere Pro CC and other tracked based editing software, and perhaps one day could steer some away from FCP X, but that is not likely anytime soon.

Those are just my thoughts, look forward to hearing from other people and their opinions.

Origin files are in the Cinema DNG format as the footage is shot in the raw format. Resolution is 2400 x1350 with frame rate at 24.

Depending on the look I am going for or more advanced correction power windows and secondaries with qualifier as needed will come into play. Custom curves are sometimes used.

With raw I usually grade from scratch unless a fast turnaround is needed in which case a LUT is applied.

I agree. I find FCP X a rather good editor and very good finishing application. Perhaps the lines are a bit blury now. After all it is somewhat diificult to diiferienate between editing and finishing. I guess it all depends on who you ask and what their awnser or if you prefer, the definition is. After all X is very capable of many finishing tasks. Not sure about high-end but very close to it. At least that is my opinion. Right now most of the workflow will be done in FCP X with color grading done in Resolve though things could change. Guess it is a wait and see game for now. Time will tell.

Same as above, combine a few effects and publish select parameters. Kind of like saving a preset in After Effects but without the subscription. Me like that very much! 🙂

Awesome! Really want a taxi that can do flips, fly and all that super cool stuff. Something of a FCP X type of roller coaster, no tracks!
