I am installing High Sierra on a SSD rather than the HDD which has Sierra at the moment.
There were some issues trying to install the new OS yet all seems to be working fine at the moment. I clicked on the Restart Now button only to get that beach ball. After a second download all seems to be working fine. Granted this was just launched today so a few glitches were not out of the question. Looks like the OS installed just fine and will post should any updgrade demon gremlins pop up like weeds in a flower bed.

I am not sure that Resolve would be my choice as an NLE as it still has some stability issues. As for cutting a feature it might be my first choice but Final Cut fits my needs for now.

If they are connected clipsit works. Secondary storylines are another issue. I have tried this with the both the selection and position tools. Perhaps it has something to do with the clips being in a storyline?

I have been playing with the retiming features in Resolve which are good but I honestly feel Final Cut is better. I don’t mind color grading in Resolve then back to Final Cut for the other stuff. I will likely do that the send off the audio to Resolve with a reference movie fir sound work. I might even get around to playing with Fusion some more. To be honest, Resolve needs some more improvements before I consider editing in it.

Two things that need to be addressed: keyframes and image sequences. There are no hold keyframes in Final Cut and as far as I can remember it never has. I have been with Final Cut since version 3 though I skipped one upgrade cycle. Image sequences can be imported into Final Cut but you have to change the duration to 1 frame. I think Motion can handle image sequences and make them a single clip upon import. Still no mixer and once Fairlight takes off in Resolve I may just use that for the audio workflow.

To be sure Final Cut is not perfect but neither is any editing software. Even though it needs improvement, as the things mentioned earlier, I really don’t see myself jumping ship. To be honest, those things are not that major. At least I don’t have to pay rent. ????

The fact that it has HSL curves is a huge bonus. The tracker looks solid as well.

Going to give it a try soon. The fact that it has more options than Color Finale makes it a very viable option. By watching some of the videos I almost thought it was a Resolve plugin! Looks very promising and will probably use it in conjunction with mLut which is super solid. Avoiding round tripping with Resolve where possible will be super duper awesome.

Side note: I thought I saw mention of Color Finale having HSL curves in an upcoming update. No date was mentioned. Anyone else know anything about it?

Completely agree. Not sure what Apple was thinking with their color correction tools. The one in Premiere Pro are more robust but that requires a subscription. ????

I am using 14 as of now. What you say makes sense. Will round trip before speed changes.
