I think the disrespect is inexcusable. That said, disrespect usually comes from frustration and anger with the problem(s) they are having.

Probably a lot of folks who are typing in questions here are angry or frustrated. Phone calls should be understood as OFF LIMITS.

Many companies are now relying on Cow as the answer place so they do not have to provide functional support at their end. Media 100 (Boris) is just such a company. They refer you to Cow since they don’t have the bandwidth to answer questions regarding problems.
From my experience, I believe it’s possible Cow is getting a bit overwhelmed and folks go to the phones. When Flo, a well respected Media 100 expert, and other Cow helpers could not answer my question about a problem with Media 100 codecs and 720p formats, I was tempted to “go to the phones” but knew better.

We do need some good help out here but Flo cannot do it all. Our companies who sell us expensive equipment need to do their part by either offering better support at their sites and via phone or by stepping up to the plate and working at the Cow to quickly answer questions about thier products.

    Nuff said.

Well…the outcome finally is that no one here nor at Media 100 really knows what is up with Media 100 and 720p support. I can find that JVC is practically the only producer of 720 P technology and that 720p 60fps is the higher res version they started to pump out after their first HD cams that produced 720p 30 fps. Duh. However in the Media 100 video input area within prefs 720p 23.98 fps seems to possibly be supported along with 720p 60 but maybe not through firewire since it is greyed out when firewire is selected as input, whereas with firewire selected, I can chose 720p 59.94fps which of course does not work with the JVC deck. It should considering this appears to be JVCs technology. But it does not.

I opened Final Cut Pro and Voila, it saw and digitized 720p 60 for me on the first shot, easy as pie, the only hitch being that I have not been able to control th edeck via firewire just yet.

The long and the short of it is…if I want to get my investment out of this JVC HDGY110U which is by my standards a fine camera for the money with pro connectors (except the stupid battery mount) I will need to leave good old Media 100 behind and say hello to Final Cut Pro. This is ridiculous and a shame but that is how it is today. I was a Media 100 user since they were in Diapers….way before Boris.

Thanks for reading and for attempting to help me.

Well it would seem to the uninitiated (me perhaps)that these formats are not interchangeable. Even Media 100 Producer offers to acquire in two flavors 720P 60 or 720P 59.94. You figure if this is the same it would not list them separately. Marketing material addressing capability also lists 30 and 60 separately alluding to the idea that it is distinct, and that it is 30 frames per second versus 60 frames per second – not the same thing.

Is not the difference between the 4 possible 720p formats frame rate and drop and non – drop?

    I thought I understood:

    720p 60 – 720 progressive at 60fps non drop frame
    720P 59.94 – 720 progressive at 60fps drop frame
    720p 30 – 720 progressive at 30fps non drop frame
    720p 29.97 – 720 progressive at 30fps drop frame

So if this is so, they are not compatible and can cause me the kind of trouble I have been having. Am I wrong? Why does Media 100 Producer have an acquire selection that says 720p 60 that is there but unavailable and a setting that says 720p 59.96?

Will an upgrade to Media1oo Studio change this?
