March 5, 2007 at 5:50 pm in reply to: HVX 200 shooting at 60… I don’t understand it!Oh, I just don’t know – is there nothing wrong with that? (I’ve just never used this 59.94 thing before that I know about) – I just realized in the audio/video settings of FCP there is a setup for DVCPROHD 720P 60 23.98, but in the easy setup there is no such setup, only DVCPROHD 720P 60, and so I need to render all the footage I put on a 23.98 timeline. If it’s okay on a 59.94 timeline that is fine too, I guess. But is there no way to edit this footage as 24 fps without having to render? Can I reimport the p2 folders differently?

March 5, 2007 at 5:29 pm in reply to: HVX 200 shooting at 60… I don’t understand it!Ah, I see! Thank you. Now, I’m starting to figure it out a little bit – if I put it on a 59.94 sequence I can cut the footage in without rendering and when I play it it seems to run okay. But, if I go frame by frame there seem to be lots of still frames. If I put the footage on a 23.976 sequence, it runs at 24 frames a second but I have to render every cut. Do you know how tro approach this?
Thanks!

March 4, 2007 at 5:16 pm in reply to: HVX 200 shooting at 60… I don’t understand it!Why, thank you. It’s a music video. They shot it all at 59.94 (which is a new concept to me which I don’t entirely get yet). They shot a couple of shots at 48 fps but when they import they just look all juttery and wrong. I’m trying to figure out what to do with all that… A couple of regular speed shots did that too but I reimported them and clicked “remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames” on the import from the P2 tool.
This whole format is new to me!

February 14, 2007 at 8:17 am in reply to: HDV Aspect ratio in Final Cut Pro – problem exportingThe DP is coloring. I am planning on mastering it through the hdv deck back to hdv, and also to a dvcam tape. Do you know if it will master stretched or the correct aspect ratio?
Ah, this is confusing to me… I’ve cut a bunch of films on 35, and three on HD, but HDV confuses me!
Thanks very much for your help.

So – does that mean I should export the footage stretched like this and then receive it back stretched and put it on the timeline again – stretched – with either the sequence settings set to anamorphic or the monitor anamorphic switch on?
When I export a dailies shot just for a test, it doesn’t come out stretched, though. Strange!
If I may bug you with one more question – how should I approach mastering this, in terms of the aspect ratio?

Thank you!
I do have he 5.1.2 so I suppose it will work. And I can digitize native through firewire from either the camera or the deck?David

I really hope FCP techs are seeing this because it is a truly annoying problem. I just cut a couple of features on FCP and it’s so frustrating to constantly have to stop and fix something when you play back, something you’ve already done! Anyway… once again, thank you to everyone who chimed in, and I will definitely try the sample rate conversion.

The 44/48 theory seems to indeed make the most sense.Lots of luck in never having this annoyance again!
