UPDATE: Sorry, guys. My bad – they have a new link for the CS6 drivers, but when you click it you get “coming soon”.

Just checked – for KONA 3G, yes, coming soon. For KONA 3, nothing listed for CS6.

The KONA 3 was never announced as an EOL product. But I feel your pain – we have 6 of the LHe cards in house. But with Avid v6 not supporting them either, we knew those were dead to us…

    Any FCP 7 die-hards want a great deal on some LHe’s? 😉

Oops – my bad. I checked yesterday, and it only had 5.5 drivers on their software page – not that it had CS6, I thought they had released them. I never clicked it to see “coming soon” because I needed the KONA 3, and there’s no CS6 support. Sorry about that…

They are on the AJA site now. For all of the latest cards, but not the LHe or KONA 3, which is a bummer.

CS6 drivers are up on the AJA site – but not for the KONA 3, either, only 3G. lame!!!!

  • Client Supervised Sessions – were you able to output to a client monitor? Stable? Which I/O card?

That lag between broadcast monitor and desktop monitor is not unusual at all. We have some older plasmas that are quite slow to process the signal, and often lag a few frames behind. The question is, can you offset it to match? And can you control the audio sync?

Smoke 2012 has the best implementation of that I’ve ever seen. 1) There’s a preference for whether audio syncs to the desktop, or the broadcast monitor, and 2) you can control the delay to within a hundredth of a frame to create perfect sync with any monitor.

Thanks, Shane. Figured as much. I should work on getting vetted, eh?

We have a borrowed Thunderbolt ioXT for iMac & Avid MC 6 testing – I have to send it back soon, and was hoping to give it a CS6 run through before returning it.

The good news is that the iMac/tbolt AJA seems like an entirely valid option for an editing workstation. I as quite impressed, actually. If we stay on the Mac, most of our edit stations could live with that setup just fine…

Where can one find these AJA beta drivers for CS6?

Quite sad the LHe is now EOL. We have 8 of those suckers. We knew they wouldn’t work with Avid, but not even with CS6? I think resale value just dropped to $0. Any FCP 7 legacy hold outs want a great deal on some KONA cards? 😉

May 2, 2012 at 5:07 pm in reply to: What are you thinking about CS6?

    Thanks for the clarification, Todd.

I totally understand your situation of SG being a recent acquisition, not fully integrated yet, etc.

Just a couple of notes to add…

SDI monitoring through KONA/BM etc on MAC – this is VERY important for a facility currently using FC Studio and using Color for Grading with client sessions. If SpeedGrade worked with KONA, I’d be much more likely to stay in the CS 6 suite for finishing. As it is, I’m more likely to swap my KONA card for a Blackmagic card, simply to be able to use Resolve for grading & output to a broadcast monitor.

If I was already using a Windows system, I’d be stoked about the NVIDIA solution. As it is, I was stoked about Transmit. (Still am for PP and AE.)

As far as the round-trip workflow – again, I understand it’s a work in progress. But the “stable/hard to break” short form workflow – that could also be interpreted as “rigid and inflexible”.

One of the things that is nice about the Color & Resolve XML roundtrip is that you can grade each shot and render discreet clips with handles. This can be quite helpful when further changes come up. The concept of “locking picture” seems to be disappearing in my corner of the world (broadcast advertising). Changes happen right up until the last minute, so it’s helpful to grade the footage, and send it back to the NLE, and if slight tweaks need to be made to the edit, they can do it with graded footage, and you don’t have to go back in to grading to add a few frames to a shot.

In this case, maybe the EDL workflow would be better for me? But again, until I can output from my Mac to a monitor, I doubt SpeedGrade will fit into our finish pipeline.

Thanks for all of the info!
