  • That doesn’t work. I’ve uploaded a video to show you what i mean. I cant get my head round it at all. My main thing im wanting to do is do a slight colour grade then export for proxy’s. But as you can see from the video it doesn’t allow me to.

  • I’ve just tried now with a 720p custom sequence. It’s not allowing me to change the preview video file or codec as they are grayed out. If I do a 1080 sequence I can change it. This is the first time I’ve had to look at preview files etc as this problem has only just started to happen. It only seems to happen on video that I have added an effect or colour graded.

What I have been able to do is select a Maximum bit rate and render at maximum settings in the sequence settings. Not sure if these will work or not.

  • Ok so i’ve never had to do this before but under the sequence settings tab i cant change the Preview File Format or codec as they are grayed out. But i have now ticked the boxes Maximum bit depth and Maximum render quality. Will this effect the render of a timeline for playback?

  • HI would this also solve the problem of the video looking bad when i render?

  • Thanks for the info, But i have to ask how do i do this? The video preview section in sequence settings is grayed off so i cant change anything.

  • Hi thanks for the reply.

Just so I’m clear when I say render I mean render out the timeline for playback. The video preview format is I-frame only MPEG and the codec is MPEG I-frame. Having just looked at it now I’m unable to change these setting as they are greyed out.

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by ‘reuse preview render files’ could you explain? I’ve never come across that before.

The sequence I’m editing in is Canon XF MPEG2 720p. I’ve just outputted the video without rendering the time line first to MXF OP1a codec and it seems ok. But as I said if I render the timeline all the coloured footage after render looks bad. And if I render it out then the output file looks dreadful. The main goal for this video is to be uploaded to a website so I’d like the the video to look its best.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again for the reply.

The sequence is set to the canon MXF format at 25fps at 1080p. the video preview is set to I-Frame only MPEG which iswhat i have it set for every project and ive never had any problems with it before. Its a very strange problem, im having as ive never had it before.

I have tried it on 3 different projects now and everyone is doing the same. Effect looks great until the render. this is really starting to bug me now.

If I turn the effect off the video still stays the same. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. Everything is fine like I said until I render then even if I turn off either magic bullit or film convert the image of the video stays the same.

Hi yes the image is badly pixelated. The fine grain I’ve added has gone and been replaced by a blurry and pixelated mess. The video no longer look HD the clarity of the image has gone. It really is like watching a YouTube video at the lowest resolution.

I just can’t understand why before I render the timeline it looks crisp and clean as soon as I render it turns into a mess.

I’ve never had this problem before.
