There are dozens of clips. And I don’t have audio to sync them from, unfortunately. It’s not about syncing for a multi-cam setup, just for my own organization going through the footage. It would be nice to have the clips from both cameras all together in roughly chronological order.
I’m kicking myself for not checking the clocks before the shoot.

I tried that, but maybe I’m missing something. If I select all the clips from camera B and change the starting time code value to a specific time, it makes that the Media Start value for all the clips from that camera. That’s not what I want. I just want to say “For all these clips, offset the start time by X amount”.
Am I misunderstanding how to do that?

Those are good tips. It sounds like a tower/laptop workflow will work best working from an external drive. So in that case, what drive do you recommend that’s fast, portable, and bus-powered? What do you use?

Great, I’m going to give it a try. Nice to now have a couple ways to work with compound clips.

Working on a dupe doesn’t solve the issue because later when I want to use that compound clip I created in the original project, I can’t move it to the dupe project, as far as I can tell. I’m still stuck with the same issue.
But I think I found a workaround.
First I create my own compound clip in the timeline. Then I have FCPX synchronize a couple of short clips, creating its own compound clip in the Event Browser. It doesn’t matter what clips I choose for it to sync, because then I replace the contents of that compound clip with the contents of my own compound clip using copy-paste. Now I can delete my compound clip from the timeline, but I have it in the event browser just like any other clip for when I need it.
It’s clunky, but it works!
