Does anyone know how to put the timecode in the ‘subtitle’ section when burning to dvd? This way it can be turned off or on.
    Just a thought,

I hoping you’re talking about live capture here. Otherwise if you’re capturing off the Z1 tape(read mpeg2 compressed here), then the advantages of using BMD kit would only be similar to using another intermediate codec i.e. cineform aspect, which is reportedly meant to be more robust when it comes to putting in effects, colour correction etc on the ‘HDV’ footage.

You hear various stories about live capture of the Z1 i.e. the analog signal may or may not digitise to 4:2:2, it may or may not be 8 or 10 bit, it doesn

  • Thanks both of you for the information. Its a shame because there is so much fiddling round when you output on a hdtv from your video card with not much pixel mapping. In certain configurations i.e dual lcd’s, I can get ppro to utilise the whole 2nd lcd monitor but it doesn’t want to do that when I use the 7800’s hdtv output. I’m hearing blackmagic will release their multibridge extreme ‘real soon’?? so hopefully that will let me real time preview on the sony 20″.
I found a post on the adobe site last night that said ppro won’t output a real time m2t monitor stream to the Z1 camera..it’ll only do it on export to tape which is what you guys are saying.
I’d suggest that a biggie for the next release.
    thanks again,
    Dave

    Not quite….
The live component output of the sony Z1/FX1 doesn’t use the camera’s MPEG2 encoder(compressor).

Everyone that knows isn’t telling…..they won’t break the trust of their sources and even if they did, the message wouldn’t be up for long. Marketing wisdom dictates alignment with industry conventions i.e IBC (8 Sept) and where possible a little before.

  • umm…Thanks for the information. Shame the BM designers didn’t incorporate an option of porting some of that PCIe goodness out the multibridge dvi output. Regarding whether or not the host system requires a PCIe I guess you’ve sorta answered that saying AGP works. The boards I’m thinking of using may only have one PCIe slot and I’m not sure how or if you can have PCIe risers off a sole 16 channel slot. Should learn about pci express I guess. I’m looking to capture only (not edit)on sff mobos such as Commell’s new lv-674 https://www.commell.com.tw/Product/SBC/LV-674.HTM with the Intels 945G (opps..not 955!!!) for the system’s monitor and an ICH7R which’ll support 4 x Sata II drives configured as raid 0 & raid 5. The latest version of intels’ matrix s/w does this.

    Are you sure?
I’m hoping the new mobos with Intel’s 955G chipset onboard will suffice. What is the limitation regarding graphic cards?
