After rendering uncompressed .avi, you have to set the alpha channel settings > Right Click on the event in your timeline>Properties>Alpha Channel>Straight (unmatted).
Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

March 18, 2015 at 2:49 pm in reply to: “Demote” Media Markers from timeline to trimmer?

    Free way is
Set Preferences > Autosave trimmer markers to file (last checkbox in preferences list)
Then on the event you want to demote markers from the timeline, go to the marker, right click then select Open in Trimmer. Then hit M to create a Marker at the same point in the file.
You can set a keyboard shortcut for Open in Trimmer (Mine is Insert) and Cursor to Next Marker (Mine is > ) which will speed this process up significantly so I can just select the event and hit: > Ins M
Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

March 18, 2015 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Can’t adjust opacity to multiple photos

You should be able to select all photos (Right click > Select Events to End)
Then drag from the bottom of the first clip to bring the opacity back up.
With all of them selected it will apply to all clips.
Let me know if that works. Thanks!

March 1, 2015 at 12:10 am in reply to: Ultimate S vs. Excalibur vs. Vegasaur

I very much recommend the Ultimate S batch render feature and Project Folder import feature but I also use the Vegasaur Quick Properties feature daily (specifically to extend the length of events to the next closest marker). The marker features on Both are very useful and there is a ton of stuff on each that I don’t use often but nice to know they’re there when I need them. The FASST APPs are great! Thanks John for recommending those.

I haven’t used Excaliber but I’ve seen some of the functions on it are very useful.

I know Vegasaur has a fully functional free trial period so you can test drive it for 15 days before buying. I wouldn’t edit without at least one of these tools at my disposal. THEY ARE THAT GOOD!

February 25, 2015 at 9:57 pm in reply to: advancing frames while adjusting mask

The workflow I outlined works if you are using your mouse to control the mask. By clicking on the mask to drag it, your focus goes back to the mask (Event Pan/Crop) editor. I use a macro keyboard to combine multiple keystrokes using Microsoft Intellitype. So by doing that you would use your left hand to press a combo key (Ctrl+Tab, Cursorto.RightbyFrame) then click to drag your mask.

I rely on macro setups because I don’t personally write any scripts. I only use the beautiful scripts provided by Vegasaur and UltimateS.

A macro is a scripted button that you can assign multiple keystrokes to a single keypress.
But you have to use the sync cursor button (The one with the lock at the bottom of the event pan/crop)
and then hit Ctrl+Tab to switch focus from the event pan/crop editor to the timeline…then use the CursorTo.RightByFrame to move forward. Then you can click and drag your mask as needed and repeat as necessary.

Yes! You can program a macro to speed this up making it a move click combo, but here is what you have to do:

Turn on the Sync Cursor button below the event pan/mask timeline and move your mask

Then hit Ctrl+Tab to switch to the editing timeline (Or set a one button keyboard shortcut)
then Use your keyboard shortcut for CursorTo.RightByFrame (Mine is set as NumPad3)

    Then move your mask again.

The macro for me using the above settings is:
    Ctrl+Tab, NumPad3

Let me know how that works. Thanks!

February 10, 2015 at 4:09 pm in reply to: Coloring

There are a few different options for cutting the blacks down in your image. You may want to start with Broadcast colors and adjust the Luma Min. Other options are found at the bottom of the color correction FX…Gamma, contrast, etc. but I don’t think that will get you the desired effect. Another helpful fix is that you can have two layers of the same video and adjust the opacity (drag from the top of the event) or the track composite to “soften” the results of an effect. You can also layer multiple effects in this way and adjust which ones affect more based off their opacity. I hope that helps. Let me know how it works for you!
