  • “Demote” Media Markers from timeline to trimmer?

The “promote media markers” script takes trimmer markers and regions and makes a copy of them on the timeline. Is there a way to do the opposite? To take timeline markers/regions and make a copy of them embedded in the events in the trimmer? This would be much more useful to me.

Here’s what I’m trying to do:
I often have b-roll footage that I want to log so that there is a text tag on each choice clip. I like to use regions for this on interview bytes, so that as I edit, I can see visually what was said on each clip without having to play it to remind myself. However with b-roll, it is too time consuming to open each clip in the trimmer to log the footage so I usually just do my logging (with regions) on the timeline. I would love to find a way to promote (or demote) those regions to live in the clips themselves so they will stay with those clips as I move them. I know it begs the question, “why not just look at the image for b-roll?”, but for what I’m doing, I really want to be able to accomplish this if possible.

working with Vegas 12 or 13 (I have both)

    Check out Vegasaur, https://vegasaur.com/markers

I tried it out a while ago and it worked, but I did not end up getting it at the time. I probably will get Vegasaur eventually, but I have a lot of utilities that overlap (Production Assistant 2 and various FASST Apps)to spend money on another suite.

Thanks Mark! Looks like that is a solution. Anyone know of a free or cheaper way?

    Free way is
Set Preferences > Autosave trimmer markers to file (last checkbox in preferences list)
Then on the event you want to demote markers from the timeline, go to the marker, right click then select Open in Trimmer. Then hit M to create a Marker at the same point in the file.
You can set a keyboard shortcut for Open in Trimmer (Mine is Insert) and Cursor to Next Marker (Mine is > ) which will speed this process up significantly so I can just select the event and hit: > Ins M
Let me know if this helps. Thanks!
