I have done something similar using repeating macros. You have to set up a custom keyboard button in vegas (Options>Customize Keyboard) The key you would need to set up is:

    TrackView.Nudge.RightByFrames

You can set this to whatever key you want (I use the Numpad 9, so I will use that in the macro)

The ] Bracket will select the end of your event then the beginning of the next event so your macro will be:

    ] 9 9

You can set up a macro to repeat (I use a Microsoft Keyboard with intellitype software from Microsoft. I prefer Intellitype but it is just an older version of Microsofts Keyboard and Mouse software. Both are available free on the Microsoft site.)
    Intellitype
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=26950
    Keyboard and Mouse
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=42510

So the Bracket will select the end of the event and extended it 2 Frames to the Right and then as it repeats the next Bracket will select the beginning of the next event and trim it 2 Frames…it will then repeat the process for the entire project until you press the Macro button again. Let me know how this works for you and if you need anything else. Thanks!

I see that Sony switched the Ripple toggle button to the bottom of the timeline in version 13. I haven’t had the chance to upgrade yet, but I will on the basis of this improvement alone! Thanks Sony!

Another quick way to cut down any clip to 1 second is to go to the start of the clip, then press Ctrl+G to set the cursor time. Press +1.0 and it will skip ahead exactly one second. Then you can press S to split the clip and DEL to delete the extra.

  • I migrate files often. As long as I move all of the video files and vegas files in the same folder (or in the same relation to the media files folder) it should recognize the files within that media mover folder.

If you are having an issue where the events in vegas are referring to files that are still on the C: then you might try changing the name of the media folder on the C: slightly so that Vegas no longer looks to the C: Vegas will then find the files on your external/media drive and should connect them automatically…or ask you to specify the new location.

Let me know if that works for you.

January 22, 2015 at 5:30 am in reply to: problem with psd and alpha chanel

Click on the PSD Event in the timeline
Use the Pan/Crop Editor (Right Click > Video Pan/Crop)
Then under Source set > Maintain aspect ratio…No
and > Stretch to fill frame…Yes
Also turn OFF Lock Aspect Ratio (rectangle and arrow button on left side – third from bottom)

Then set the Position Width and Height to the same settings as the original PSD.

Then turn ON Lock Aspect Ratio (rectangle and arrow button on left side – third from bottom)
And now you can resize it as needed without it stretching.

Let me know how it works for you!

  • I should mention that I was first introduced to this technique by Josh Sauder of Pinnacle Productions. Thanks Josh!

  • Not trivial. Very useful thing to know how to do and very effective in videos of all kinds.
It is possible using ProType Titler in Media Generators.

Choose from the collections (Four squares in the middle grey bar) Select popup. Then go to the Scale Y section and delete all but one keyframe…(you may need to readjust the remaining keyframe up or down to make your text appear at the right size and proportion). Then on the opacity keyframes – slide the second keyframe all the way to the left.

    I hope that helps.

January 14, 2015 at 8:30 am in reply to: Import Video w Alpha-Channel

If you are unable to export an alpha channel along with your image sequence / rendered video out of Blender, you can change all of your objects to white and all of the background to black and create a separate alpha render.

Then import that separate Black and White sequence on the track above your video (being sure to line the videos up exactly). Create a Parent track above that track and set both your alpha and your blender model render as Child tracks for the parent.

Then on the track that has your black and white alpha, set your track compositing mode to Multiply Mask and create an event FX on your alpha (black/white) to Sony Mask Generator. You should be able to use the Alpha or Luminance setting, but try it and see what works.

Let me know if that helps!

January 9, 2015 at 4:54 am in reply to: Custom Keyboard shortcut commands

Sorry, I’m not sure. I know there are Zoom edit tools for the Timeline and Event Pan/Crop tool, but I normally just use the scroll wheel on my mouse to move in and out. Also, Holding ctrl while scrolling will scroll up and down along tracks and holding shift while scrolling will scroll left and right. Let me know if that is helpful…or not either way. HA!
