Do you have Chapter Markers in the video file? Toast won’t accept files encoded with Matrox MAX if it has chapter markers.

Hi Wayne,
Thank you for posting the link to new beta drivers. I was really hoping for CompressHD support though. Are there plans to support the CompressHD Card with Compressor and on Mountain Lion, with the full release version drivers? It seems like its been completely neglected recently.
I still have to partition my system drive just to run Lion and Compressor 4.0.2 with Mini MAX 2.5.0.0034 drivers to support CompressHD on my Mac Pro. This dual booting on my main edit system is really getting old. Since I don’t need drivers for Adobe/Avid, CompressHD support is the only thing holding me back.
On the other hand my MBP with MXO2 LE w/MAX is happily a single partition system and I’ll be updating to FCP X 10.0.6 and the beta drivers.

Some good advice here but I think before offering to advise the current shooter, offer to shoot one project for free. If you can impress the client enough, discuss your rate. If they don’t go for it offer a discounted rate after so many shoots (not a discount now and more expensive later). If still no go, try what Mark said, work with the guy and help him to shoot better quality video… For your sake.
But, If you truly are unhappy in what your doing for a living, better to start trying to figure out something that you at least moderately enjoy doing, which can pay the bills and support your lifestyle. How could anyone be happy doing something they loathe, everyday? Either count your blessings and bask in the glory of having income, or make a change for the better… Then count and bask.

I think you can compound the title, then step into the compound clip, apply the transitions to the title, right click the transitions and turn of to/from black, step out of the compound. Hopefully, still trying to get it all figured out myself!

Actually it just the opposite. Compressed video files from an HD camera are difficult even for decent editing systems to deal with, which is why we convert to Prores etc. The camera compresses the video so that the file size can fit on the recording media.

Somewhat, but not necessarily. With good compression you might not notice much, if any, difference visually. It’s just that there is less “information” in compressed video, information that is needed for green screen, grading etc. There is a lot to be learned in this area of video.

Not exactly sure of the current situation with the 5D MII but I think the problem is simply that the HDMI outputs the on-screen display, which ruins the video for most recording purposes. There may be a Magic Lantern update that fixes it though. “Uncompressed HDMI” is just that the video signal is bypassing the cameras internal compression, coming right from the sensor and out the HDMI. This “uncompressed video” coming live from the sensor is not the same as playing back a recorded clip, because the recorded clip has been compressed to fit on a tiny memory card. The live uncompressed HDMI has not yet lost the information that the compressed recording has lost. Although, the actual HDMI signal itself is not compressed.
I hope to be corrected, if anything I said is inaccurate.

In the event browser, select all of the clips from just one of the cameras. In the inspector window, change the view to “general view”. In the Camera Name field enter “CAM 1” (or something similar). Go back to the event browser and select only the clips from the next camera. Repeat the process, this time calling it “CAM 2” and so on for each camera.
Back in the event browser select all clips from all cameras and then right-click one of them and select create multicam clip. Name your Multicam clip. Assuming that you recorded audio on all cameras, leave automatic on and make sure that “Use Audio for Synchronization” is checked. Click OK and wait for the progress bar. When it is done there will be a new clip in the Event Browser with the name you gave it earlier. It should have all the clips synchronized with each camera as its own angle and with black gaps between clips from each time any given camera stopped/started recording, drag it to the timeline.
Hit command-shift-7 to open the angle viewer and edit away.
