You will want the limiter ON for sure! But this will probably not be enough: you will need to add a pad to the mic. What kind of mic are you using? Does it have a built-in pad? Any way to get a feed from the sound board?

I did just need to go from 24fps to 23.976 (changing the speed .1%). Converted it to an AIFF file as well, all in Compressor. Everything’s working (or syncing) great! Not to mention merging of clips; FCP doesn’t like merging two video clips…lol.

Yeah, when this documentary film began shooting (10 years ago!), DAT was still it. Glad we’re on to sold state and CP cards!

Though I haven’t used it, I would recommend the JVC-GY-HM100U: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/597842-REG/JVC_GY_HM100U_GY_HM100U_ProHD_Camcorder.html It’s small and shoots 1080p to SD cards @35mbps. Of course, if you have a bigger budget, I can offer other recommendations.

That’s interesting; I see they updated it. They also require that film must be at least 35mm; no super-16?

I have the Sennheiser 418S and didn’t particularly notice any harshness. You will get a lot of handling noise with the Schoeps; it takes some practice to minimize this while booming with it. But, it’s always been my favorite mike.

After some research, according to one of Canon’s websites (and other people’s expert math skills), the 1D, 5D, 7D, and 60D, in fact all EOS cameras are 44Mbps. Also, the 550D does 24fps.

In terms of the Sony SLT-A55 it doesn’t do 24fps and it’s only (at most) 17Mbps compared to Canon’s 5D at 50Mbps.
