Hi, I wonder if someone can advise me on an off camera audio recording solution?
I’m currently looking at a Sound devices 552 mixer which is more than I need for the moment but i’m trying to think ahead. I know this has a 2 track recorder built in and wonder if this would be a better purchase initially than the 702 that i’m also considering. I also have a USB Pre 2 on order for computer audio. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Aidan,

This would depend on what you’re going to be using it for; what type of projects.

Hi, I’m going to be using it for Mountain bike videos.
Most visuals will be stills, time lapse and pov GoPro video. But there will be atmosphere, sound fx and dialogue which I’ll need to capture also.

Just ordered both of Ty’s books so hopefully that
Should answer most questions I might have.

I would definitely go with the 552. You can externally sync it with timecode + with direct outs for all 5 channels, you can always add another recorder.
