Sorry to have to tell you this but the only persons standing up in church here is you and Carsten. Your preaching that others are preaching, when they’re clearly speaking out against preaching, does you and and to some extent, FCPX, a disservice…moreso you than FCPX, I would hope, if only for FCPX’s sake. The software needs articulate, mature, spokespeople, willing to discuss both its strengths and weaknesses. Fetishists and ideologues need not apply. They’re easily dismissed by intelligent observers.

I feel your pain. I’ve written about this before. When I opened the interface and started playing with the app I was immediately struck by the feeling that Apple designed the UI for newbies who have never edited before. That’s fine. It just wasn’t for me. Nor was I enamoured by the idea of the magnetic timeline. I edit fast and effectively with tracks. And keyword collections, which most interested me, turned out to be a highly restricted version of how I integrate a text database into my editing. So I moved on. But if you love the under the hood functionality of X then my unsolicited advice is to use keyboard shortcuts and learn to live with the UI until something more appealing comes along.

If this were a Premiere or Avid update after that length of time users would be kicking down the doors, not swooning in the aisles.

It ain’t perfect, it’s very true. But make feature requests. The Adobe guys do listen and the squeaky wheels do tend to get greased. Maybe not as fast as we’d sometimes like but they don’t have infinite resources, either.

Yeah, sometimes it takes a while for giga-corps like Microsoft to see the light. But the real advantage is in the low level hardware (thanks to the gamers who keep pushing the envelope to extremes) Now, if only Microsoft can get the kinks ironed out of Skype.
