That’s not me Michael, I’ve never used Legacy. I based my comment on editor friends of mine who did and won’t forgive Apple any time in their next 10 lifetimes. And I have to admit, it’s also based on my feelings about using Autodesk products. 12 years after they killed edit* I still have a lingering bad taste in my mouth when their name comes up. I’m not angry, mind you, it’s just reflex. 🙂

Not an opinion I share. Brett is basing it mostly on the subscription model somehow being disadvantageous to individual editors. But if an individual editor balks at the $600 per year (top charge) cost of the entire Adobe arsenal, then that individual is either an anti-subscription idealogue (go to the Adobe Creative Cloud or Not forum to see them with their war feathers on) or a very low rent editor.
I’m sure Adobe would like to increase their share of the broadcast and Hollywood market and I’m sure they’re doing exactly that. But I don’t see that happening at the expense of losing their individual editors in any major way. That’s been their bread and butter.

Not to go too far off topic but does anyone know who bought the company? It’s been a bit of a mystery since January.
For those who are unaware Miraizon was developing a high performance Prores codes for Windows. Version 2 was getting there with multi-threading speed then suddenly in January they announced they had been acquired by a large company and stopped sales abruptly. Then AFAIK, silence.
My speculation has wandered through a few companies but has largely favoured Apple because a) it’s the kind of thing they would do to shut down any threat to their Prores hegemony and there is no b). Taylor Swift should have a post company.
All in all I’m a fan of fnord (Brendan Bolles) and hope MOX catches on like OpenEXR.

ERic, I’m assuming you’re on CC but correct me if I’m wrong.
There shouldn’t be any problem syncing if your audio files have matching timecode. Pr does that in a snap.
If you’re trying to sync using only audio waveforms it would need properly selected tracks with clearly defined signals to find the matches. But it typically works well.
It’s a longstanding problem about importing some Red folders. Clips with multiple 4GB segments are created created correctly but with duplicates. The Media Browser imports folders with single segments without problem.

Warren, when I was wondering why the performance of the windowing in Final Draft was so poor I dug under the hood and found a Filemaker Pro database. This was a litle over a year ago.

Like most Apple software on PCs, apps based on the Filemaker Pro ‘platform’ run like absolute shite…most notably Final Draft. When I called Final Draft support about it the rep just shrugged. Most enlightening, that shrug. So I use Movie Magic which runs on Windows like a jacked-up race horse.

I haven’t seen this for a while but a bad or corrupted clip can cause a timelines to not play.
First to try is to create a new timline with a few good clips. If it plays then a bad clip is the likely problem. In the recalcitrant timeline remove the likely suspect if there is one, then clips one by one until the bad one is found, each time trying to play the timeline.

So you see yourself as some kind of missionary in the Church of X. OK. The problem is unlike most religions where the functioning deity is invisible, or at least, liminal, X is just software which makes it tangible and testable. You find X faster, better, and who knows, groovier, than all the others, which you’ve no doubt tested extensively. Others, who’ve used X extensively, say, “Nope. It’s got its strengths and weaknesses, appropriate in some uses, less so in others.” They sound reasonable. You sound like a garden variety religious fanatic…unreasonable, and to use your own self-description “an arrogant dick”…and are apparently happy to be so perceived. You can argue that it’s all about the software but your fanaticism makes it all about you and not about the software, even, I’d guess, for majority of the faceless thousands who you claim to be preaching to. You might find yourself a more effective missionary if you took the example of some of my Catholic priest friends in India, by letting your works do the talking.
