Although I can’t be certain that the credit for Ripple Wall belongs to me, I did suggest the idea to Bill Ferster over the phone one day. He liked it and called it a wall for ripple. It was in the next update.
This got me scurrying to Google to look up Bill who is one of the great pioneers of the NLE. Happy to report:
He is currently a research professor at the University of Virginia with a joint faculty appointment with the Curry School of Education and the Sciences, Humanities and Arts Network Initiative (SHANTI). He directs of a number of projects there including: VisualEyes, a web-based authoring tool to weave images, maps, charts, video and data into highly interactive and compelling dynamic visualizations; PrimaryAccess which enables middle and high school students to create digital documentaries using primary source documents online; and dscourse which is a new generation online discussion tool.

The only downside of Xeons compared to i7’s is the clock-speed/price ratio. i7’s are unlocked and can be overclocked with limited impunity. My office X99 Haswell 5820 12 core is rated at 3.2GHz but runs with ease (<50 degrees) at 4GHz. Xeons are locked so you pay much more for equivalent cores and clock speed. That said, when I re-build my Premiere editing station it will be on dual xeons.

It’s clear they optimized their design for a single screen. But I think having selected bins on a tabbed panel that’s full screen is always going to be more efficient, at least for my use.

Actually the Lumetri Color and Scopes panels are like all Premiere panels, movable and dockable.
I use 3 screens for documentary work. One monitor is full screen with of panel of docked bins with hover scrubable picons. I can’t imagine editing with less screen real estate.

Sigh…I was there, too. Recalling the glowing future that was painted for us, juxtaposed against the black days that followed the EOL announcement, I’d say whatever fanboi tendencies existed in any of us were forever obliterated by the hard realities of the business decision. No one should suffer any illusions that it will be any different with any other NLE.

HP business computers are great and I love the 24 hr on site service. But the fact remains that if you know what your doing and don’t mind the odd burp or two you can save a bunch of money by DIY.

I have to agree mostly with David (DRW). If you have the time, know-how, and patience you can build a brilliant PC editing workstation that will run rings around just about anything. It’s not that hard. But there are VARs out there specializing in video who will save you the frustrations (minor and otherwise).
The idea that Windows is inferior to MacOS is just ideological twaddle. Both have their strong and weak points. But inside your cross platform NLE the experience is the same. If you object to the seconds spent in the OS before you launch – or to Explorer instead of Finder for copying files then there’s little help for you. The Fires of Hades await you on your death. St. Peter has little use for fanboys inside the Pearly Gates. He doesn’t mind OS preferences…OTOH I hear he’s partial to tracks.
