Also don’t forget Sorensen Squeeze. It uses CUDA as well.

Madness?! THIS. IS. X!!!.
Seriously, though, there may be a hidden setting for this. It does seem a bit ludicrous if there isn’t a way to turn that off.

June 24, 2011 at 3:23 pm in reply to: FCP X workflow for 2 camera (EX1 and DSLR) interview edit?So the how do you edit this? Do you use the blade tool and replace chunks with “gap clips”? Otherwise I would think that removing a section would move the entire timeline down on one level to fill the gap. It seems like this might be a work-around for some projects until we get a proper multi-clip function. (Unfortunately this still does me no good on projects that are 2+ hours long with three cameras 🙁 )

They’ve pulled negative reviews? Last I checked that’s all there was.

June 23, 2011 at 8:14 pm in reply to: FCP X workflow for 2 camera (EX1 and DSLR) interview edit? This is exactly why multiclip is such a needed feature in FCPX. I’m sorry I don’t have any advice…I’m stuck using FCP7 for this kind of project for now. The only think I would say is that I have heard that FCPX has a feature that can match clips using audio to synch them up. (I haven’t gotten far enough into it to see how to do this yet) How you would edit back and forth between them I have no idea. Maybe with filmstrip view on?

I just updated a new install of FCS3 last night, so hopefully that means that the auto-update still works… (crosses fingers…)

I agree. This is why all of the ranting is necessary at this point. This could mean the future of not only Apple’s market share, but the workflows for thousands of production houses all over the world. If Apple doesn’t hear how mad their customers are, of if they have anecdotes to point to and say “See, people are happy…the unhappy ones are just being loud”, then why where’s the sense of urgency to make the software useable for pros?

I’m having the same experience, and as such am crossing my fingers that they will make good on adding certain crucial features (multiclip, XML, tape output). Even if they only added multiclip, FCPX would be a worthwhile program for my workflow and able to replace the old software for most of my work. Without it, I’m stuck using the FCP 7 for the lion’s share of what I do, even if it’s only for a portion of the project.

That would be well and good if there was an easy to way port a project from FCP7 to FCPX and back again. I could work around the no multicam feature, for instance, if I could start a project in FCP7, edit the multiclip portion, and then open the project up in FCPX and finish the rest of the project out. As of now I have no way of doing this.
I agree with the person who said they simply released a product as fast as they could, and plan on implementing features later. At least I hope that’s the case. This next year will be a crucial time for Apple’s market share in the pro industry. They have already released updates that fixes the lack of XCDAM EX support; let’s see if they can be as timely with implementing the missing features.

Really, there are only 3 features that would make FCP X stunning IMO. XML/OMF support, importing older projects, and most importantly (to me at least) multiclip editing. If they added only one of these it would at least make the software feasible with my current workflow. Lacking all three literally kills it for most of my projects, no matter how good everything else is. That’s the problem. I completely agree that what it does have is amazing.
