Thanks very much for the suggestion, I think it helped. I have solved this problem by doing the following:

• using a wav not an mp3
• compressing to 8M quality (the smaller the file size the worse the problem)
• matching the project frame rate to the render frame rate

The above allowed a successful render of 1440 x 1080 to WMV with no out of sync (the mp4 gave issues).

I must say though, I have quite dissapointed in the quality of the Vegas – why should it ever have these issues if I’m not trying a live preview?

SOLUTION

In the video properties, there was some setting (can’t remember what it was called exactly) that was to do with the pixel ratio.

I didn’t realise that in videos there is this other aspect to takle into account.

By setting the ratio to 1, the borders disappeared, and all the images fit perfectly.
