  • Rendering causes out of sync, best settings?

Posted by David Brien on February 7, 2011 at 12:34 pm

I have a 1440 x 1080 video which consists 90% of images with one or two AVI clips, set to an mp3 song. The images change each time a beat of the soundtrack hits. There is some left to right panning of images as well.

When I load short, 20 second sections into RAM and preview on low quality, the video is perfectly in sync with the song beats, and is fairly smooth when panning across images. So I know it is set up correctly.

However, when rendering to WMV 9, I have found two problems:

    • the video goes slightly out of sync with the beats at certain points before returning to sync
    • the sections where I pan left to right across images can look shaky (wobbly).

The settings I have adjusted are:

    • – render quality (best vs good)
    • – sharpness (90% vs 100%)
    • – either VBR or CBR 1M vs CBR 3M vs CBR 5M vs CBR 8M
    • – video size (640 x 480 vs 960 x 720 vs 1440 x 1080)
    • – frame rate 25 vs 30

I have successfully rendered the video on 640 x 480 but would really prefer to have it at 1440 x 1080 without being massive in file size.

    Please can someone advise:

    • are all the above setting parameters factors that effect out of sync or wobbline? (i.e. can I potentially ALWAYS leave render quality on “best” without causing out of sync or jerky image panning? Similarly Can I ALWAYS leave the sharpness on 100% ?)
    • could there be anything else causing this? Do I have to look at (and maybe match up) the overall project properties (e.g. match frame rate to the render frame rate, or match video size to the render size, or match frame rates)?
    • any other advice that could solve this problem?

    Thanks for any input.

Convert your mp3 file to a wav file and put that on the timeline. Does that do away with the sync issue?

As for 1440 x 1080, try the Sony AVC render template and adjust accordingly. You should be able to produce an mp4 file that is small on size and high on quality.

    Hi Jeremy

Thanks very much for the suggestion, I think it helped. I have solved this problem by doing the following:

    • using a wav not an mp3
    • compressing to 8M quality (the smaller the file size the worse the problem)
    • matching the project frame rate to the render frame rate

The above allowed a successful render of 1440 x 1080 to WMV with no out of sync (the mp4 gave issues).

I must say though, I have quite dissapointed in the quality of the Vegas – why should it ever have these issues if I’m not trying a live preview?

    Thanks!
