Check the extension you saved with. If for some reason the file is a TIFF file saved with the JPEG extension, you may see this error. It happens sometimes when I scan a file as one type, but give it the wrong extension (stupid Microtek Mac software). Make sure the file is what it says it is.

LOL! Sorry… forgot what forum I was in. In Premiere Pro, park your playhead over the frame you want. Then go to File–>Export frame. In the export dialog window you can click settings to select the format still you’re exporting.

Ron, you need to create the still from your video editing software. What video software are you using? Editors like Avid and Premiere Pro have export features that allow you to export a single frame. From there you can open the image in Photoshop and apply the deinterlacing filter to soften the jaggy edges.

Hi Debbie,
I responded to your previous inquiry about this. In case you missed it, you can read it at https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=45&postid=857686.
There was also another possible workflow mentioned in that thread. QT Reference files are viable. Basically, you’ll need to ensure that no unrendered space remains in your Avid sequence. Check that post unless you’ve tried it with no luck 🙁brazz

Hi Anna,
It sounds like you’re asking how to composite your kids onto the surface of the wavy CD. That’s an art as well as a science. If you Google “photoshop” and “compositing” you should find several good books and articles on the topic. Also, visit https://www.planetphotoshop.com/tutorials_effects.html. Study the tutorial titled Combining Images Using Masks. That’s how I usually composite photos. I apologize in advance because what you may find may seem overly complex for new or casual users of Photoshop. Successful compositing is a complex topic though. I had started writing some long-winded tips, but thought this might serve as a better intro to the topic.
In short, basic compositing will involve these skills: selecting specific areas of a picture, masking that area, moving the masked layer from one PS file to another and arranging the layers in proper order, resizing layers as needed, adjusting color, brightness, and saturation to fool the eye into thinking the objects belong together, and blending edges where the layers meet.
I hope this is helpful.

In Photoshop’s Image Size dialog window, choose “Nearest Neighbor” in the Resample Image pulldown. It’s at the very bottom of the Image Size dialog window. AFAIK, that will resize by simply recreating the nearest pixels and applying no antialiasing.

There are a few ways to do this. Here is just one.
1. Select the oval layer by control+clicking (in Windows) or apple key+clicking (on a Mac) the layer. You should have the “marching ants” lines around the oval.
2. From the “Select” menu select Modify–>Contract. Try 10 pixels.
3. From the “Select” menu again, choose Inverse.
4. Once more from “Select”, choose Feather. Set the amount for 10 pixels.
5. Finally, delete your selection by hitting delete key or Edit–>Clear. If you know ahead of time you want a soft-edged oval, use the oval Marquee tool… add a few pixels of feather in the tool settings. Make the oval the size and shape you need (maybe a little bigger to compensate for feathered edge). Then invert the selection and delete. Instant soft edge!
cheers

Apologies, try this link instead: https://store.adobe.com/store/upgrade/upgrade.jhtml?id=videoaudio.

Those formats should work fine, just remember to invert the alpha on the way into the Avid. Alternatively, you can try exporting a 24 bit PNG file which works well with Avid also. Give a little more info about what you see when you import. Is it just a black background? Is your alpha channel valid in PS?
