Apply the Warp 3D effect, open the effects palette and look for the rotation control.
If you mean that you need to rotate a photograph that you’ve applied Pan & Zoom to and want it to fill the raster, you’ll have to do that in a third party app.

Briefly, MC allows you to work in more resolutions than Xpress Pro. MC also allows for more than 1 stream of HD. I believe it also has more robust features for working with film. There’s also VBI preservation, adjustable motion control parameters, top and tail and a few other niceties.

Avid automatically scans external busses; it’s constantly updating its database of files. If yours crashes when you plug a device with P2 files into it, best to just kill the app before plugging in (IMO).
You didn’t say what version software you use. We use recent enough versions of MC and Xpress Pro (5.7 & 2.7.5) to have the “import P2 clips/media” function. Implementation is so-so.
Sometimes after I’ve imported the media in one session, I have to restart the Avid (and often delete the P2 folder in Avid’s application folder) before I can import other P2 media. And I have had imported media clips mysteriously go “offline”. Once it begins consolidating I no longer have problems with it crashing, however. Overall, I’m hoping Avid improves the stability of the process.

Philosophy has less to do with this issue than how the final audio mix sounds. The two methods don’t accomplish the same thing since the first way has no environmental sound (wild, I take it) at all. The resulting mix should determine the method used, as some editors and producers like a little more nat sound in the final mix.
I tend toward the first way since lavs/booms usually pick up enough ambient sound for my tastes.

Read the help file on using P&Z. After you apply, you have to point to the jpeg using the effects editor controls for P&Z.

Try applying the jpeg as a Pan & Zoom. Keyframe the roll with P&Z controls.

Jennifer, we’ve recently begun a P2 workflow and are experiencing some challenges in archiving as well. Our Adrenaline isn’t new enough to recognize P2 data, so I’m stuck copying audio/video clips to the media drives and losing all the yummy metadata. For those projects I’m simply rolling of tapes of footage that I want to keep. I know it’s old school, but it works.
Our Xpress Pro does have the import function though. When you copy the P2 card info, make sure you copy ALL of it. My understanding is that Avid has to see the entire folderized structure to recognize footage as “P2”. If you’re spanning information across multiple Blu-Ray discs, I would reassemble it in one place before asking Avid to import it.
As I said, we’re new at this too. I hope this helps. As one astute observer mentioned, time gained by capturing to/from P2 is merely shifted to the backend archiving step… at least until the fully digital workflow is in place.

Make sure you have at least 10% free space on your system drive (C:), and that it’s defragmented and checked for errors. Beyond that I’d make sure your computer’s hardware is up to speed. Have you had any other issues with streaming media that might indicate a hardware problem? Has an unapproved Windows update or driver insinuated itself without you knowing?

Thanks Michael! I thought it was something like that. Only our Xpress system is new enough to have “import P2” so I have been copying at the desktop level on my Adrenaline. As usual, the Avid is doing exactly what it’s supposed to 🙂

Download the trial version of Adobe Encore. Search the forums for Xpress Pro –> DVD workflow using QT Ref movs. Burn your DVD from the laptop, or create an ISO file that can be transferred and burned elsewhere if lappie doesn’t have a DVD burner.
