I have been a very annoying issue with my Avid Adrenaline 2.02 – PC, The timeline will not play smoothly. No matter how many times I render, expert render or render in and out, their remains a red line at the bottom of the timeline and it will NOT play smooth
I’ve had this system for three years now, and this is the first time this has happened and has been happening for a few months now, getting worse and worse. It’s now to the point that sometimes if I turn on V1 only, it still won’t play smoothly.
Someone please help because if I don’t go crazy my boss might.

Check your hard drives to make sure they’re not failing. If they’re having a problem you need to back them up immediately and replace them. If they go down, you lose all of your media.

Also check their connections–you might have a bad cable or a busted firewire port/card, depending on how your system/storage is set up.

Make sure you have at least 10% free space on your system drive (C:), and that it’s defragmented and checked for errors. Beyond that I’d make sure your computer’s hardware is up to speed. Have you had any other issues with streaming media that might indicate a hardware problem? Has an unapproved Windows update or driver insinuated itself without you knowing?

A red line at the bottom of the timeline indicates a drive performance issue. If the red line was at the top of the clip in the timeline it would be an incomplete render. You need to test your drives and connections immediately. What type of drives are they? How are they connected (PCI card or built-in connection?)

I’ve run into this every once in a while. I’m always able to restart the Avid application, then when I get back in it’s magically rendered.
Hopefully you might have the same luck.
