You specifically have to adjust the vertical position parameter in the effects editor window. The position won’t adjust auomatically as you lengthen/shorten the clip.

You can use the superimpose effect from the blend category. It won’t give you transfer modes (multiply, overlay, screen, etc.) like After Effects will, but there’s an old (and free) plugin floating around from the DMN forum that will.

That’s a little bit of a shot in the dark question, as different editors have different audio workflows and software preferences. I’m fond of Adobe audition for final sweetening. It’s not a plugin so you will have to export/import and layback.
However:
1-The built-in compressor works OK, it just doesn’t have the nicest interface to view levels as you’re compressing. The real problem with Avid’s audio interface is its destructive nature which forces you to bounce tracks if you want to apply more than one effect at a time.
2-If the discrepancy in levels is that large, your final product will ultimately benefit from evening the levels out before you compress and/or limit. If (hopefully) the mics were recorded on separate tracks, work on them individually before you cut them into the sequence.

Joe, you need to duplicate your final sequence an mixdown all video tracks to one solid video track with NO black (filler) before you export your sequence. It’s a petty annoyance to us Encore users, but try to reference black and you’ll get goofball frame rated.

I’m not sure what’s causing the level shift, but FWIW, your image specs (300DPI/16bit) are way overkill for pan and zoom, just my opinion. I would try a test at 72DPI. Make the photos NTSC safe (safer) in Photoshop by limiting RGB levels to 16-235. Some color ranges may still be “technically” illegal, but import at 601 levels and see if you still get the shift.
Pan and Zoom can be a resource hog. The large file sizes of 300 DPI may be affecting the software.

What format media? D1? DV? Check your effects aperture setting.

I tend to remap the “next/previous marker” buttons. I think default “next” is either the tilde key or the tab key. But you can see all your shortcuts by clicking “keyboard” in preferences. It’s actually useful to write these down somewhere as they need to be recreated from time to time.
