  • This is a bit more work than you were interested in but it does the job. Precompose or nest those segments and then create dissolves between the nested sequences.

My preference would be to render the movies with the effects appeied and reimport the rendered movie.

You simply cannot do “super slow motion” with conventional video formats. You must have more than 50-60 discreet slices of time, sya, at least 90, but 10,000 frames per second is nice to have. Fast shutter speeds do not do that, they only create crisper images, provided you have the light.

all you need is a current Macintosh if you want to use FCP.

See this site for all of the reasons you do not want to be doing this at all, at least not yet.

Knoll’s fabulous little goodie UNMULT is still a free download from Red Giant. Far more useful than merely moving lens flares to alphas but that’s all we seem to know how to do with it.

Or use Foam, precompse it, and time reverse the precomp.
the hardest thing about particle systems running backwards is that the physics that are built into them are designed to simulate explosions, not gatherings.
I have zero experience with Particle Playground but I’ve gotten great reversals with Foam, CC Particle Systems, and CC Particle World. World is probably my favorite because the floor can be edited to be a wall or ceiling and have bounce properties.

Someday I simply MUST explore Palyground.

Shatter totally rocks. One of the better plugs ever created for AE. As you spin open the control, you’ll see it’s going to be neither easy nor simple. You will want to google every tutorial for Shatter you can find.

Yar, but I tend to consider the target use. Do you need to deinterlace the interlaced stuff or do you need to introduce interlacing to progressive material?

Simon’s got a good idea. There are many subtle things that impair the Finder or system level activities such as disk access. Do you have issues with any other intensive applications like Motion?
Little apps like MacJonitor (free, see versiontracker.com) can make the OS10 maintenance tasks painless. Totally benign.

    Hi, Andy.
We should get together to talk FCP/Motion someday.

  • Great, and thanks for coming back and closing the thread with a solution. Hardly anyone ever does that around here.
