[Matt Carl] “I didn’t see that anywhere in the long AE Help post you copied and pasted but thanks for encouraging me to “
I disagree. AE templates have a specific extension and now that you you know wht it is, you can search for it.

You might want to visit the adobe.com discussion and forum areas. Plenty of discussion about crashing and tweaking performance. you can also just scroll down here for a few pages and see what turns up. Seem to be many posts about PCs with Intel processors working better than those with others but I’m on a Macintosh and I’ve got my own problems.

You most likely elected not to install them.
Mine are located within a folder called PRESETS in the application folder.
Wait, you say “templates.”
RTFM?
This is from the online help system for AE:A template project is a file with the filename extension .aet. You can use the many template projects included with After Effects—including DVD menu templates—as the basis for your own projects, and you can create new templates based on your projects.
When you open a template project, After Effects creates a new, untitled project based on the template. Saving changes to this new project does not affect the template project.
A great way to see how advanced users use After Effects is to open one of the template projects included with After Effects, open a composition to activate it, and press U or UU to reveal only the animated or modified layer properties. Viewing the animated and modified properties shows you what changes the designer of the template project made to create the template.
Often, the creator of a template project locks layers that should be left unmodified, and leaves layers that should be modified unlocked. This is a convenient way to prevent accidental or inappropriate modifications. You can download example projects and template projects from many websites, including the After Effects Exchange on the Adobe website.
Jonas Hummelstrand provides a simple and useful Beautiful Earth example project on his General Specialist website.
Open a template project
To browse and open template projects using Adobe Bridge, choose File > Browse Template Projects. Double-click a template project to open it.
To open a template project, choose File > Open Project. On Windows, choose Adobe After Effects Project Template from the Files Of Type menu.
Create a template project
To convert a project to a template project, change the filename extension from .aep to .aet.
To save a copy of a project as a template project, choose File > Save A Copy, and then rename the copy with the filename extension .aet.

May 19, 2009 at 5:01 pm in reply to: cheapskirts option for metadata tagging / asset management?None that I know of that meet your possibly unreasonable expectations. Hit version tracker and start looking, you might stumble onto something obscurely useful.
I use Canto Cumulus for digital asset management and would I would never recommend getting into DAM to anyone unless they absolutely know what they need and how they expect to get return on the incredible amount of energy required to install, design, and manage DAM catalogs.
If cheap is all you want, FileMakerPro is your engine. Lots of third party providers for metadata and media management systems.

You know why there are ten million typefaces? No one can make up their mind.
the olden days had a valid rule: Choose your type size based on good typography and to fit 12 (maybe 15 in a pinch) lines of text on the screen. That was back when legibility and communication were considered important. Ah, the good ol’ days, makes me pine for Nixon.Viewing distance with HD can be a factor.

Google is your only hope:
ROTOSCOPING.You cannot possibly do this economically so begin negotiating with your client immediately about how to keep the project profitable without sacrificing too much of the design concept.

Do you mean randomize the characters–glyphs– or actually replace the typeface randomly.
One us the Character Offset parameter. Oops, sorry, that’s what it’s called in After Effects. I’m not at my Motion machine to check it for you right now.
I don’t think there’s a way to randomize the typeface. We would do that in AE by duplicating the layer (once all of your other typography is finished) and use a different typeface in each copy. Then figure out a way to change the layers in and out apparently at random.Stick around, you’ll get better advice over a couple of hours or days.

May 17, 2009 at 2:41 pm in reply to: losing picture quality when doing slideshows with Final Cut ProYour thread implies you lack a fundamental understanding of video. That’s okay, we all had to start someplace. But you’re probably going to find out there’s a lot about video you don’t yet understand.
Your 2k images are being scaled to about 10%. Of course they look awful.
This is a topic we see about once a week around here so, in addition to answering the other guys’ questions, you can search the forum for “slide show” and find hundreds of helpfu
bogiesanl suggestions.
