Yar, it’s a weird place to be but all of our internal work is shot on DV and released in WMV for streaming. There is absolutely no reason to originate in HD just to turn it all into 15fps postage stamps with eensy bitrates. The bigger question is should we be shooting on HD for archival purposes? Not my decision, thankfully.
I’m holding out for time travel.

You might want to talk to the manufacturer of the RAID.
Your description does not indicate to me anything that could possibly interfere with RAID or drive functions; they’re just files.Does FCP run if you disconnect this RAID?

Easy to create in Motion, too.
You can build a heart out of three intersecting matte shapes, two ovals (slightly rotated) and a square (rotated 45 degrees).Heck, you can draw a heart on paper and shoot it with a still camera.

We have no plans to go to HD for several years so I’ll be watching with great interest. Give the wonks a day or two to add their experience, which is much more vast than mine.
What flavor of HD? There are many and they all have different requirements.
All of the fastest HD systems of which I am aware are proprietary or hardware-based codecs like Media 100. I’d start asking the other Media 100 users what they’re planning on migrating to in the future if Boris has no plans to enter the 21st Century that you like.bogiesan

Suggest you research the forum for posts about render and media files ending up the trash. it’s a very strange phenomenon, totally inexplicable.
Try to recreate this scenario and immediately save the project with a new name. This will create a new render media folder. Try rendering only a single clip at a time.

Try popping open Activity Monitor and see if you can get a feel for what’s sucking up your CPU cycles, time, or RAM.
Sudden changes in FCP’s performance are almost always traceable to a recent installation of a game or running a weird app like virus scanning in the background. You could also have acitvated “display all sizes” in open Finder windows. That alone can bring a drive to its knees.It’s almost impossible to diagnose by remote control without getting more of a gut feeling from you.
Give the wonks a few more hours to drop in.
