Hitting L repeatedly will increase scrubbing speed.
Grabbing the thumb on the bottom of the timeline will move the window.

There is a huge library of keyboard commands that you can apply, modify, or create custom button bars from. See the manual.

[Jason Diebler] “You “can” move/scrub through the timeline with 1 key. Space bar plays. J, K, L keys give you forward, pause, reverse playback. Up + down jump to edits. Mouse scroll-ball scrubs (if you have a scroll- ball mouse). L/R Arrow keys move frame by frame. H gives you a hand. Home/end jumps to front/end of timeline. +/- expands/shrinks timeline or windows. You can find all your short cuts in Tools>Keyboard Layout or customize your own.

Yeah, that’s what I meant, too.

Most such issues I recall have been interformat problems. There was probably something askew on the originating camera.

I hope you get a decent suggestion other than “try to get the camera.” Could take a few more days for folks to check in and read your post.

The ability to use gradients as controls for effects is a HUGE leap forward in your sophistication.
You can use movies for the gradients.
You can use each of the four channels of a source layer for each of four different controls because you can have four different gradients or movies in each of the four layers.

  • It will appear as Knoll in your list of effects. You just apply it. There are no controls.
But you can immediately see the results if you view your canvas set to alpha. Unmult is one of the many filters Adobe should just buy and include with AE.

Never used P2 but these out of sync issues used to come up often with media from Canon DV rigs caused by Canon’s not standard DV codec. The audio sampling rate was just slightly different form FCP’s default DV setting.

Work on a copy of the media! Duplicate it at the Finder and import the copy.
Unlink the audio from the video. Find out how long the video clip is exactly, write it down. Open the Speed function for your audio and enter the exact length of the video track. Relink them, maybe render the audio if you have to.

June 17, 2009 at 2:50 pm in reply to: Looking for ideas on file management

    [Tim Stonesifer]
    1- Media tagging
    2- Archiving/Deleting projects
    3- Managing ongoing projects
4- General file structure within your OS

    1. Tagging metadata is only possible within applications that support it. The Adobe quite has powerful tools and XMP hooks to and from EXIF data. Media cataloging and database products are usually overkill for one-person operations.
    2. I archive to a server using AE’s gather files routine. Simple, reliable.
    3. Ongoing projects are local. Archived projects are on the servers. However, your question implies you have never established a file naming convention that helps you intuit what’s what and where it is kept.
    4. I use the same paradigm in AE from video editing. I have a OS drive that holds project files. I have a Capture drive that holds raw media. I have a Render drive that holds, umm, rendered media but I rarely use it for AE renders (see following note). I have an Output drive to which I export or move all media that is destined for release. This is rarely the final product so all drafts go to the Output drive, too. this system has its complications, though. For instance, media that is generated by AE for reimportation goes to the Capture drive because it’s really source media. I try to move or copy all assets and resources to the Capture drive even if there is already a copy of the same media from another project, unless, of course, it’s just a HUGE file. I only run into problems when I end up discarding many assets from a project.

Ed, can I use this? I don’t know if I’d be able to give proper credit each time.

That would ordinarily indicate your composite video input was unterminated when you captured, unlikely
    You’re working in Color?
