There’s an updated freebie! Man, you gotta get this thing, even if it doesn’t suit your present need.

FxFactory has several freebies that do fabulous LED displays.
See:
https://www.noiseindustries.com/fxfactory/?gclid=COnc0-H485wCFR5HagodfF70kAand look for CoreMelt.
Ooops, just noticed that coreMelt no longer offers their freebies with the FxFactory download package. Looks like they’ve gone completely commercial. which is fine, their VeeYou filer creates incredible meters of all kinds including analogs with needles and lots of LEDs.

September 15, 2009 at 3:33 pm in reply to: What are the ideal settings/compression for rendering of a 3072×768 after effects video for projection?Strongly urge the OP to forget everything at this point to avoid preconceptions and to begin investigating the digital signage industry. Multiple display from a split simultaneous playback is a no-brainer in that industry. One system plays an H.264 stream (in any pixel dimension) and scales it and splits it out to any number of graphics cards. One video source that is accurately split across any number of displays. My MacPro has 8 DVI connectors and these will drive 8 Apple 30″ displays at their maximum pixel dimensions.
What you end up with might be Walter’s system approach but there are specific tools and software for doing exactly what you want to do. Arena and large outdoor advertising venues have been using these tools for decades, they just keep evolving.
Please come back and tell us how your solved your challenges. We see these posts several times a year and they all have weirdly similar but unique solutions.

Modern televisions work much differently than the old CRTs we grew up with. The conventions of clicking remotes and snow between channels are still expected by most audiences but they are anachronisms. It is very easy to over-work this effect by adding way too much activity.
Even in the olden days, we found it was much more interesting and satisfying to play a videotape through a TV on the shooting set than it was to try to fake it.

that’s not a wipe, that’s a traveling matte.
You have layer that contains an egg-shaped hole and another shape and an outline. The layer is transparent inside the egg, opaque outside. You animate the layer approaching the camera or scaling up, they amount to the same thing. Render the movie with alpha. Easy.
The layer with the kids must be scaled by itself in the Avid. If you were doing this in AE, you cold link the kids to the egg with an expression and alter the proportional of the scale application.bogiesan

I can repeat this on my machine, FCP7, NTSC. It’s weird.

It’s an amazing piece of script writing, for sure. The user comments on the site indicate it’s not as easy as it looks, which is typical for scripts.
Note also that this site provides scripts for a price and you should consider paying for them. Imagine trying to recreate a Rubik’s cube effect on your own!bogiesan

Easiest way to simulate a scope is to shoot one. Oscilloscopes are different from EKGs that leave a fading line abut I guess you guys have already worked over those details.
I’ve never gone beyond using Vegas for these effects. Offers all the controls one could possibly need for simulating traces on a CRT.
