You’ll need to define “unstable.” Subclipping worked fine in 4.5 and works fine in 5+. As with so many data handling tools, user error is a big issue. But, if you look in the manual, you’ll see there are several ways to create subclips and to use them.

How do you think you will want to use subclips with Multiclip? They’re just pieces of clips. If you create them properly, multiclip doesn’t care where they came from.

Compressor is plagued. We don’t know why. Like Media Manager, Compressor seems to work well for most of us and is a disaster for the rest of us.
You might want to invest several more hours into reading the apple.com Compressor forum.

Easier to buy a tool we know works like Squeeze or Cleaner.

We’ve been speculating on FCP6 for about two months. It’s generally a waste of creative thought but LAFCPUG usually has a poll going to see what gets fixed, added, updated.

NAB is in May, still 8-10 weeks out and, heck, FCP6 might not ship for another 2 months after any announcements.

You can export out of iTunes to AAIF.
    Or is it AIFF?

    > you can learn the media manager and see how you like it. This article should get you started:< Media Manager is a sore subject around here. Over on LAFCPUG, the opinions are mostly on the negative. These aren't crazed sterno bums, they're pros in the southern California production business. Here, the sympathies indicate Media Manager's failures are almost always user errors. That means you and I are incompetent. We're in excellent company. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

There are only two codecs I know of that support alpha.
Animation is one of them. Apple is not.

Stu, thanks for the non-panic contribution.
There are so many things that can go wrong, this adds some hope that it might be minor.

Try any and all hardware debugging software you can get your hands on. The G5 came with a hardware test disk, find it, run it five or six times. Get ready to spend an hour on the phone with Apple. Other hardware testing apps are out there, try versiontracker.com.

The fans pumping up is a sign of some possibly horrible things but not necessarily anything that can’t be cured or fixed.

Could be the motherboard, could be the graphics card, could be a simple OS issue.
