You are going to be using Motion. You will start in the online manual under “motion tracking” and you will need lots of time to work on it.

If you did not shoot the scene with motion tracking in mind, you will be entering many manual keyframes. This is advanced work requiring patience and lots of failed attempts.

If they were not installed you will need to go back to the original disks and look for them. But they may simply exist in the wrong Library. They can be hard to find since Spotlight doesn’t look everywhere you think it should.

I’ve never used FCE and you don’t mention the version numbers of either application so it is quite possible those effects simply are not included with your version.

Media Manager in FCP7 has solved many of these issues. But it still recommended that you you carefully examine your MM copies for the integrity of speed-adjusted clips, still images, and other effects you do not want to recreate. I always render them and reimport them as self-contained movies but I rarely use Media Manager.

Media Manager in all previous versions of FCP is terribly flawed, a cruel joke, actually.

You should be asking this in a Tricaster forum. Do you know what the custom transition specifications are for Tricaster? We do not, so post them when you find out and we can go from there.

AE will give you a movie that may or may not fit Tricaster’s needs.

You should start by researching the film and associated web sites that describe the production and animation techniques that were used. You will find dozens including many fan sites.

I saw Sin City too long ago to remember “white” blood, seems it was yellow, but there are too many possible ways to accomplish that kind of illusion, many of them are practical, shoot it that way; simply use white fluids instead of blood-colored fluids for your on-set effects. another way is rotoscope every frame and hand paint it.

You can easily create an AE project of precisely these pixel dimensions. However, this is ultra low resolution and you should carefully explain this to your client. Also suggest you ask if the display outfit can give you some demo files.

You can also look up JUMBOTRON for tutorials. This was back it the days when Cycore effects ere a very expensive third party package and large screens emulated CRTs. LEDs were not available. the Sony Jumbotrons used light bulbs. A l-o-n-g time ago, we learned how to do this by actually creating a triangular matrix of three different RGB signals. Fairly certain the technique was perfected by Brian Maffitt. We split the movie into three channels, applied a Newsprint-style dot mask over each, moved them so they formed a triangle, and colorized the separate layers. Tremendous pain the butt but the effect was deliciously cool.

I was recently asked to simulate low-rez LED signage for some designers. It was easy to create a realistic version using the CC Ball Action technique. This gave the creatives a previz tool so they could appreciate what was going to happen to their text and illustrations as they went form 300 dpi Photoshop files to a sign that was only 74 pixels tall by 400 pixels wide.

to push the edges of the cubes into 3D as they rotate, yes, you must build them individually. It’s not particularly difficult to build one, duplicate it, replace the layers, and parent them all to one (or to a null or to an expression spinner).

If you just need an elegant and lovely rotation transition, explore Card Dance and Card Wipe.

Referring directly to the iStock sample, you can get Shatter to do this but controlling the z-space without getting an explosion is advanced.
