Sounds like the resource fork for the files has been lost. This is common with reconstructions.

Try versiontracker.com and look for resource fork. There are some products that can determine and reattach the fork.

Ooh, ooh! You could also try to rename the files yourself. Just change the extension to what you think it should be and see what happens.

I hope you get it fixed, sorry I cannot give you a better or more definitive answer. You might also try the OS10 forum here on the cow but please include that you have crossposted.

You’d have to explain this a bit more. There are several aspects you could emulate and others you can fake or forget. First, it’s stereo, are you dong that? Second, are you looking for the rotation between frames? The left one goes down, the right one goes up. The window between the viewports contained about fifteen words of descriptive copy. Are you doing that?

I don’t mean to jump all over your post but this is not really an issue.

It’s always been possible to export with an alpha from FCP, it’s just never been intuitive compared to other editing or compositing apps. The tricks are in knowing what codecs support alphas (not many do) and how to make sure you’re exporting the timeline instead of rendered media that might have already flattened out the alpha.

< "Shaved" off of what? Never seen this myself and I run alphas in and out of FCP to and from AE often. Yar, check and triple-check your Media Manager copy.
If the MM copy is going to another shop, be sure to allow yourself time to provide a second copy.

The biggest issue I would want to deal with first is converting all the various formats to a single format. I’d have all of my VCRs patched to a single DV or DigiBeta deck and make dubs of everything to the universal format and capture everything from there into the FCP system.

You get protection dubs and all of your time base corrections and color tweaks can be done before you ingest to
FCP.

Aside from that, creating a folder for each week’s project is the only thing I’d be doing.
